Conversation advice, anyone?

I've heard the basics, I guess. Try to talk about something that interests them, etc.
But how do I prolong a conversation? How do I make it so the whole thing isnt just boring small talk? But at the same time I don't want to be too formal. I mean this with people who I'm trying to become friends with and whatnot.

I don't really have any advice for you considering I'm a zombie when it comes to conversations, but I managed to find this on a site for social anxiety:

24 Interesting Conversation Topics

Not the biggest help but it has some pretty good tips and conversation topics in there.
Hope this helps :)
No offense but I laughed at how cheesey the banner is. LOL.
This helps though. I'll definetly keep this site. A lot of those are some that I've tried and actually make for good conversation.

You know... many people tell me that my awkward/quirkiness is actually quite charming.
I keep meaning to say this in other threads but I can never think of the words...

It's alright to be unsure of what you're trying to say- if you're making an effort and being funny at least; most people will enjoy your company even if they have no idea what the hell you're talking about.

Noone has told me that. Where I live, people tend to completely reject anyone who behaves abnormally or is quiet/awkward.

And yeah, I agree. I don't think you should plan out or map out a conversation or know everything you should say. That usually ends badly, and both people get bored.

Easy. Get them to talk about themselves. Ask how their day was, how they're feeling, etc. people love that ****. And then pick something interesting out of there. That's to establish a report. Later down the line, it should be easier.

Hi HeadFace! If you got balls, then talk about your real thoughts and feelings. Talk about what pops into your mind, even if it's something "ridiculous" or "negative". The trick is to learn not to be ashamed of your thoughts and feelings, or anything about you :)

I imagine having some interests helps too.

C'mon, there are gazillions of potential convo partners in the world. If you're not living in a very small place, you can always "screw up" by saying too much or saying something "stupid", but you'll have no problem to keep the convo going. If the conversation stops, look around you and say "Hrmm....what else can we talk about? Let's talk about this tree here!"

^I really hope they do because most of the time people have no idea what i talk about.

Ill bet it is :p but not everyone can get away with it, in my experience people are put off by nervous/awkward people.

Why would you want them to talk about themselves?! seems like a very boring way to meet somone. My idea of hell ::(:

If I don't speak --> Awkward silence
If I try to say something --> Awkward conversation

So I try to have conversations with whatever I have. I don't really care haha

Sometimes it's even funny to see people's reactions to my weird nonsenses, but most of the times I just feel ashamed to see everyone's looking at me like I should be in a zoo or something... but at least I try, right? ::p:
