can anyone recommend a good sci-fi/ fantasy book to read?

Eisenhorn by Dan Abnett is one of my fav's but it really requires some knowledge/intrest in the Warhammer Cannon to enjoy.

It's down at the moment but check this site out when it gets back up

Robin Hobb is worth a try if you havnt read any.I got into the first few books of the Anita blake vampire hunter novels,but anything after book 8 I wouldnt bother.

The Wheel of Time series by Robert Jordan is awesome.
The Xanth series (A Spell for Chameleon is the first one) by Piers Anthony is also awesome.
Narnia, of course.
Lord of the Rings/The Hobbit (of COURSE).

I can't think of any one-off ones off the top of my head, they're all series.

Terry Pratchett has written some very amusing books in the fantasy genre.

The colour of magic, mort and wyrd sisters are my favs

The Once and Future King by T. H. White is one of my favorite books ever.
Here's a list of the "Top 100 Fantasy Books" as well. I can personally recommend 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 8, 17, 19, 20, 25, 26, 30, 32, and 83.
