Can anyone explain this video?

I came across this recently when I was looking for videos from New Order's Lowlife album - and oddly enough it sounds sorta similar to them. Plus some Chrissie Hynde in the vocals. And the lyrics are intriguing -

I know you're not ready to live
Are you ready to die?
Cause under your skin
Is a regular guy

It's like my skin turned inside out
But there's no silver here in this cloud​

I really like this song. I'm sure the video means something, but I don't know what. She digs up a chest on the beach full of objects, and some (imaginary?) people appear, then they disappear, and when she tries to touch the objects they disappear. And then she drowns herself at the end.

There's also a clock running backwards. Is that like time running out? And strings from her fingers dragging the objects behind her, as the people back away from her. Is that like memories screwing up your interactions with people?

Anyone have any ideas?

Maybe her search for material objects, which takes up most of the video, is leading her astray. She finds objects, but ends up losing people. After having the objects, the objects begin to have her. They drag behind her, holding her back from enjoying life and making contact with people.

She eventually is able to find the people again, but ignores them. Instead of greeting them, she attempts to grope for more trinkets, which seem to disappear more quickly than she can grab. There never are enough things owned. The more you own, the less you feel like you have. What she's missing are important things like friends. Eventually she becomes disillusioned with what's left of her life and drowns herself.

I think she's dead , and she is like telling what happened ,her friends are the ones that take something from her and the chest is her , so when the things disappear , is time for her , and the clock comes back one hour.
