WOW. It *is* a great article!!

Did you know Mother Theresa was suffering from great depression/feeling 'absence of faith' for many long years too? (I mean, who wouldn't, if faced with such poverty and misery every day...?)

I do think that even labelling these things as 'mental health problems' is, in a way, stigmatization. I mean, what is wrong with just plain being miserable these days anymore? It's not like we don't have a cause to be-??

I think everyone goes through some periods of immense sadness in life (and some pharmacy companies just wanna sell happy pills for it)... Some people just go through more difficult things than others... And if you are trying to make a difference in the world and the obstacles seem unsurmountable, isn't it logical to develop some sort of 'depression'? hm!

There's a saying: 'When has anyone normal ever made history?' and it comes to mind when reading this article. Yup, indeed.

And Wow about the Prime Minister...

Yeah I agree, everyone needs to read it.. :) Maybe you can just send it as an e-mail or put it on FB or something? Or print it out for those who don't go online? If they are employers/in HR you can go via that route: in a 'what do you think?' way, without saying anything about own problems or such (?)
You may be surprised and may hear about closet cases too... (?)
I just recently heard about someone we know, never had any idea... she seemed such a lovely lady..

Awesome article! Thanks for sharing :)

Jim Cary also had depression when he was younger - and look at him now!

Robin Williams was an incredibly shy kid with no friends. He made up his own friends. That's why he's so great at ad-libbing. He spent his childhood in his house making up characters. Again..Look at him now!!

YouTube - Comic Relief 2009 talks Stigma and Discrimination in Mental Health.

I feel this video is very related. It's about helping to eradicate the stigma that I feel mental health issues brings these days. To me mental illness is the same as having a condition like Diabetes or MS - yet if you tell someone you have issues with depression, social anxiety or whatever you can sometimes immediately be brandished a weirdo. This needs to change!
And I just wanted to share my support for what the above article and video is trying to achieve :)

Time To Change | let's end mental health discrimination

If u're rethinking mental illness u should read " Peaking Out. How My Mind Broke Free from the Delusions in Psychiatry" by Al Siebert, Ph.D as told to Sam Kimball, Ph.D. Al was diagnosed as a schizophrenic in 1965 and voluntarily checked into a mental hospital. A few months later, he checked out -against medical advice and led a productive life. The book is his perspecitve of his "illness". Interesting b-cuz Al Siebert was highly educated in the area of psychology. He passed away in 2009 but managed to leave his mark on the world

Beautiful article no doubt. Thank you very much for the post.

I always believed that most people have some type of mental illness - it all depends on the degree of it...
