Australians have come out on top as the world's most envious people in a tally of the seven deadly sins.

BBC magazine Focus found Australians also scored highly for the other six sins, making Australia the 'most sinful' country on Earth.

"Sin-prone" Australia was followed by the US, Canada, Finland and Spain.

Researchers used a points system to determine which countries committed the seven deadly sins (lust, gluttony, greed, sloth, wrath, envy and pride), the most.

The tally compared national statistics for plastic surgery (pride), theft (envy), violent crime (wrath), number of annual holidays (sloth), annual salary (greed), money spent on fast food (gluttony) and porn (lust).

Australians ranked first for envy and third for lust and gluttony.

Despite a fondness for the occasional sickie, sloth was was identified as the sin Australians were least likely to commit, with eight other countries considered lazier.

Six nationalities were considered more wrathful and three more greedy or proud.

Highest in each of the sin categories were the US (gluttony), Mexico (greed), South Korea (lust), Iceland (sloth and pride), Australia (envy) and South Africa (wrath).

Does this only include OECD (First World) countries? It is true that Mexico is mentioned, though.

You would have thought that Somalia, Afghanistan and Zimbabwe would be unpleasant places either in the present or recent past. In the extensive slums of Rio de Janeiro gangs of youths armed with sub-machineguns are the rulers. There is an extensive drug trade.

This seems to look at private citizens only, not the government. I would have thought that many governments are pretty corrupt.

There are things wrong with Australian culture: excessive drinking, bullying, swearing, lack of sensitivity, racism etc.

That's sinful?

It sound foolish to me, sine in my country there had been real chainsaw massacres, and the perpetrators just get a coupule years in jail for drug traficc. But we're not as bad as the mentioned Somalia and. Afghanistan

I can't stand my neighbour and his stupid accent he's so lazy and ignorant when it comes to issues on race, gays and people who cant get money like he does and what's worse is that his wife is so skinny and runs a daycare in their backyard shes really nice and stuck with him because she thinks he's funny but he's an ass. She's let go since of her looks to me it's all just the most saddest thing in the world ::(:

This article shows of the many reasons why people would love to move to Australia. As soon as I have the funds, Im leaving Mother England for Oz. Ive been planing my exodus for over a decade hahah
