Arrogance

Not for me. But, I must admit, I find it kind of exciting to think people might find my attitude attributed to arrogance - or snobbiness. I am not arrogant at all - I am very humble and timid. And I think people see me more so as that.

I don't like arrogance (it's one of my biggest turnoffs) but I'd almost rather be looked at as arrogant than timid..I don't know. Maybe it makes me think I appear stronger than I actually am?

Yep I do it at times, it works well in certain situations.

I'd much rather people see me as a little bit arrogant and maybe self righteous instead of coming off as a pathetic wuss.

One trait demonstrates confidence, the other demonstrates insecurity.

Arrogance doesn't demonstrate confidence... it demonstrates assholishness (not a word, I know). I've unintentionally come across that way, but I'd never purposefully want someone to think that of me.

I have a social phobia, not as serious as some people here but still serious. I was wondering if anyone else uses arrogance as a defense from letting people get to know you. I use this quite often and now i just do it unconciously. Some people see through it but a lot just see me as this arrogant kid who thinks he´s better then most people and therefore doesn´t talk to them. I am only arrogant when i dont know the person but once you get to know me i am not that arrogant. I also guess I have this reputation of having high standards towards girls. I would only make out with a girl if she was really pretty or at least make it seem that way and when I´m drinking I tend to not be interested if an avrage looking girl starts showing me intrest.
Does anybody else do this as a defense to hide your social phobia.
I´m 18 years old if that puts thing into perspective.

Yeah i don't intentionally try to be arrogant... but i come off as arrogant because of my anxiety (eyebrows rise, smile goes away and look serious...etc) also i'm not good at being arrogant cause if i did i probally fall flat on my face... i do however use arrogance to show off llike if i were to play tennis or something... (thinking maybe someone might think i'm cool and think i'm really good at tennis and give me respetc... which is twisted i know_

No way! I hate arrogance! I'd rather be seen as humble anyday. There's a difference between confidence and arrogance.

it seems like everyone likes to use arrogance, even the facial expression of arrogance... because it's "normal". Everyone seems to think they need to act arrogant, and have to hide all their true feelings because they want to look and be "normal". To show feelings is to show weakness. heck, to show an ounce of Humaneness is to be weak.

I for one got tired of people looking down on me for showing my true feelings or even having any.

I try not to be arrogant, but sometimes I just feel like "f*ck it all!" so what can I say? I don't just feel it, I AM it.

I also agree with recluse. I'd rather not look like a grumpy mr scrooge kinda guy.

Arrogance : offensive display of superiority or self-importance; overbearing pride.

No, this doesn't describe me at all, I don't think I could ever come across this way either. Arrogance doesn't show confidence, it shows too much pride and insolence, or egotism. I would hate to be seen as an arrogant person, i'd much rather be myself, meek as I may be.
