hi,
i have suffered from excessive sweating for years now and i am fed up with it so trying to sort it out. i try and avoid walking anywhere especially when its hot. i have been trying avert for a couple of weeks now. last week i really thought it might be helping, at least i havent been sweating whilst at work in the office, so there has been some improvment. i have been taking 2mg. today has been the first hot day in a while and after work i walked about 10 mins into town and could really feel the sweat, although i just about managed to buy what i needed, it didnt feel like the avert was working, i guess it could have worn off by 5pm when i took it at around 7.30am? i just want a normal life but not sure what else to try? any suggestions are welcome, maybe i should increase to 3mg a day or is this too much? many thanks

Where do you live? Don't you need a prescription for the Avert? If you are not under the care of a physician, I am, and he is a hyperhydrosis specialist here in NYC. He started out with 1 mg. Glycopyrrolate once/day (AKA Avert). It helped considerably, but now that the weather is warmer he advised me that I could up it to 2 mg/day as needed. I've been staying put with the 1 mg., because anything is better than the sweating before starting the medication. My physician also said that I will feel hotter in the summer months and this is expected as the normal response to hot weather. Mine is all over, but at least I have a physician to turn to for this problem is I have any questions.

Hi there,

fraid there isn't any known magic bullet out there we can point your attention too, so eventhough Avert (glycopyrrolate) isn't available here in the Netherlands, I've read a bunch about it also from other used and tried other anticholinergics myself so I'll try and answer that question;

-Yes it could well have worn off after that many hours
-IIRC the maximum dose a grown up can take is 8mg/day spread out in several doses, but not many take that much and I wouldn't recommend it just based on what I've read from others. Many take 2 times 2mg so 3mg/day should be fine, just don't go out at noon on a hot day in full sunlight playing basketbal.
-Some HH sufferers have noted that it works best for them if they take it on an empty stomach, which probabl has to do with absorption of the drug.
-One of the main benefits of Avert over many other anticholinergics is that it does not readily cross the blood/brain barrier, so side effects on your brain are probably not too big.
-If you (also) have palmoplantar HH and you do iontophoresis, you can crush a tablet into the water trays (details can be found on sweathelp.org).
-There is also a liquid solution form of glycopyrrolate that may or may not help with absorption, which I don't really know.

I guess that kinda covers it as far as glyco/avert goes. Hope it helps you out a bit.

As Jeeza mentioned, I was told the maximum/day was " 8 mg, in divided doses". If I ever took that much, it would have been during a very hot and humid day. But yeah, 2 mg. is not enough for me if it's hot--usually take 2x2 mg, and an hour before eating.

We're all glad enough to tell you of our experiences, but some of this should have made available to you when/where you got the Avert.

I used Avert for several years, before successfully trying iontophoresis. Here are a few tips for using Avert:

- Avert is most effective when taken on an empty stomach. Or at least wait a few hours after your last meal. If you've eaten anything, especially a large meal, the Avert will not work, or will kick in long after you needed it to.

- Avert usually took a couple hours (approx.) to kick in for me. The longest the effects last is around 6 hrs, before wearing off.

- The dosage that works for you may be different than others. Trial and error is really the only way. Best bet is to start at 1mg and work your way up till you find the dosage that works for you. Again, it's important to take it on an empty stomach, or you may just be throwing your money away.
***Don't start off with a large dosage. I did that once when I first started and it was NOT good.

- Keep water handy to help with the dry throat. Try and avoid taking Avert if you're going to be in a hot environment or participating in physical activity.

- After a while, you'll know how your body reacts to Avert, how long it takes to kick in, how long you can count on it working, etc. So use this knowledge to plan ahead when you'll be in settings where you'll have to interact with people or your sweating might interfere with what you're doing.

- Last, but not least; try iontophoresis. I don't know what type of HH you have, but for hands and feet people have had very good success. They also make attachments for armpit and facial sweating.

I've used the Drionic unit since starting iontophoresis back in 2008, but plan on upgrading to a higher quality unit like Hidrex or Idromed very soon.

The Hidrex machine works well for me but didn't help my daughter at all. She is starting treatment at the hospital using Robinul powder in the water trays with a Idrostar machine......fingers crossed it will make her hands more manageable.

Hi,

I heard driclor works. Driving green tea may help. Exercising helps me to reduce excessive sweating (caused by anxiety).
