any experiences with Trazadone?

Anyone ever taken Trazadone for depression? I'm currently on Prozac and it seems to help somewhat but I still have terrible mood swings. Last nite I ended up in urgent care due to a mental crisis. They almost had me admitted to the psych ward due to suicidal ideation. I finally convinced the nurses and doctors that my plan wasnt to kill myself, that I just wanted to stop feeling so miserable so they prescribed Trazadone. I have never heard of it and have been reading about it. I wanted to know if anyone has had any experiences with this drug.

Trazodone is usually used to treat insomnia as its really sedating. I've tried it before and it helped me sleep, didnt do a thing for my depression. Hope you have better luck, I know how you feel. Ive been to the psych ward 4 times so far in the past 5 years.

Yeah, my doc gave it to me to help me sleep at night... Little did I know by the next morning I was still extremely sleepy I felt like a zombie and wanted to pass out all day while at work with only 1 dose the previous night... Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

My mother takes it as a sleep aid, and it didn't do anything for her depression so she also takes paxil.

It seems to be more useful for insomnia than anything else.

My psychiatrist tried to offer it to me as if I hadn't already tried the entire pharmacy.

Ha ha, by now you should be able to prescribe him/her stuff, lol.

Yeah it's horrible for that, but it's a great sleeping aid. I take it for insomnia.

Thanx for all ur replies. I decided i'm not going to take it even if the doctor prescribed it. Hopefully the prozac starts making me feel better.

You could always ask your doctor to raise your Prozac dose if its not helping.

When an anti-depressant isn't working(and you want to use meds) your doctor usually has two choices: up the dose on the current med or switch to another anti-depressant.
