Almost deaf in one ear

Warning this is a bit disgusting:

I've been walking around with a congested ear for about 2 years, since I constantly put off going to the doctor, thinking it's not really necessary, etc.
Two days ago I finally went to the doctor to have my ear flushed out but it's not out yet, because the "ear-wax lump" is too far in and too stuck. ::(:

Really worried and sad about this. Also because I think it's one of the main reasons I am socially anxious in group situations, because I have a hard time focussing when in a large group of people multiple people are having different conversations. Also I often don't understand people when they're talking to me and have to ask what they were saying again..

I'm really worried my ear may be permanently damaged and damn myself for not taking action earlier. Next monday is my next appointment to have it flushed out and I have to put oil drips in it daily. I hope I haven't permanently screwed up my hearing because of my stupid avoiding behavior.

If so you can always use hearing aids.
I have hearing loss in both ears from inheritance.
I think hearing loss is one of the reasons why I have social anxiety as well.

If the deafness is due to ear-wax buildup I really don't think that it is going to cause permanent damage, I'm no expert though. Sometimes wax does act very stubborn and is hard to remove. I hope they will be able to fix this problem for you.

You'll be fine mate. If there was permanent damage the doc would have told you.
