i am getting really depressed living in my country where the pace of life is so stressful, i am really dreading just thinking of working 8-5pm everyday, i just want a simple and quiet life away from people and politics. Hence i am thinking about going to another country to work and live, probably for at least 6 months, and i want to work somewhere close to nature to help with my SA, such as working in a farm or fruit plantation. However i am not clear about the expenses of living overseas for so long, i might not have enough to go, and if working as a fruit picker would actually sustain my daily living out there. also, i have never travelled abroad before and travelling abroad sounds frightening to me, i would love to go with another companion but i have no friends. any advice?

Where are you from Giant?? Just curious?.
Normally id suggest canada, particularly the british columbia region, lots of fruit farms there and i know alot of them are always looking for extra hands, but with winter fast approaching harvest season is well over now....

Hi Gunman, do you know approximately how much are the expenses of living in canada? and when is the harvest period?
i feel that i need a vacation to forget all my worries, but i have been unemployed for quite some time now and am slowly getting detached from society. i think i would not be able to find a job of my level if i am still unemployed next year, which makes it all the more depressing for me. i want a job but the thought of finding one already makes me really anxious. I really do not know what to do.

I dont know for sure EXACTLY, i dont even live near a farm lol, but i have family out there. i BELIEVE the harvesting period is mid july to the end of august. I just txtd my dad to ask him, he grew up on a fruit farm out there and will know for sure. Ill post back when i have a proper answer for you

I wont lie about the cost of living. Depending where you are it can be quit pricey. But because im in alberta i cant give you exact numbers on BC...

i just spoke to my old man, and suprisingly apparently alot of places out there will still be looking for hands even in the winter, apparently theres alot of tree maintenence to be done and such while the fruit growing season is over. I was also slightly off with my harvest season, apparently its from august to the beginning of october.
If you want, shoot me a PM, i have a local area website you can reference if your looking for actual orchard work in specific areas.

There should be some work in Norway, not sure about if there are many that is close to nature, although we have much beautiful nature. Lot of polaks and other easteren europeans come here in the summer to pick strawberries. Not sure if thats exactly what you want though.
Even if you did get a "normal" 8-16 job, it would be possible to live near nature.
Oh. and norway is one of the most (if not the most) expensive county to live in, so the work you got would have to give you some income, as it would not be possible for a foreigner to live here on savings.

Hello, I don't know if I can contribute in any way. But I had two things in mind.
First of all, I know there are places (at least in my country) where you can educate yourself how to plant and live on the countryside. If you feel you got the motivation, living in the nature and be pretty much self-reliant isn't impossible.
The other thing I was having in mind, if you don't want an ordinary job - why not study? Apply for maybe just a course lasting a semester, you'll have time to do other things, and if you like it enough - maybe keep on studying? And with this, I'm thinking if you want to apply for a university in another country.

So i guess being a fruitpicker would not be able to sustain my living in Norway since the job is season dependent? What other SA friendly jobs can i pick up in a foreign country?
I thought about that, but i do want to go through the stress i suffered in uni, having to go through dreadful presentations and comm classes, and besides i do not have money to study , i need money just to survive but i cant do a normal job.
