If meds are all it takes, then I doubt you had social anxiety in the first place.

I think he meant to say that social anxiety also consists of behavioral aspects that must be overcome as well. So there's not a special pill that makes everything go away all at once. Maybe DillJenkins didn't mention his (ongoing?) struggle to change his ways of thinking, behaving, etc. Or maybe he caught his social anxiety early and was able to deal with it before it completely ruined his life, like it does to so many others.

Also, I know that many of us are socially retarded. We sometimes say the wrong thing, say the right thing the wrong way, or say something totally unrelated. We don't mean to, but sometimes it just happens. So I tend to give posts on this site a bit more leeway than I'd normally give people in the real world.

I can also see how it might be a little off-putting to say "Hey guys, I took some pills and I'm all better now. See ya!" on a forum for people struggling with social anxiety on a daily basis. It's almost like telling an atheist surgeon how Jesus cured your cancer all by Himself. So maybe Felgen didn't pick the best words to use. Maybe he was in a bad mood. Or maybe he really was just trying to be a jerk. I don't know.

I think the important thing is that someone here was able to overcome his problems and is now feeling much better. So I'm gonna focus on the positive!

:D

I agree with most of what you said Tiercel. I have to admit at first I was a bit skeptical. How can someone get cured all of the sudden? But we don't know the whole story. Maybe like you said, he caught it just in time and was able to get rid of it. If this is the case, DillJenkins, have a wonderful happy life and go to a crowded club and dance like there's no tomorrow, do it for all of us :D

yeah well... the important thing that i saw in the OP's post was "feels real good to feel good again." aaand that's enough for me, i'm just glad someone else is feelin' right :)

I believe the right pills can take away a huge lot of the symptoms and make you more relaxed, anxiety free and sociable. First of all, you have to feel good to be able to be happy, social etc. In my opinion all this we suffer from has some physical (or psychophysical) cause, otherwise we wouldn´t be different from other people. Xanax as I know from this forum is something that makes you feel really good, but of course, heroin and other drugs also make you feel good. But you will pay the bill later, so don´t think you won.

You are cured by taking meds ? So you're still anxiety-less if you stop taking them ? If yes: Congratulations ! If not: welcome back.

I think some of you misunderstand the point im trying to make. The pills are just helpers.

I have a job which is quite possibly the hardest one I could have chosen. Its fast food basically. I have to work counter sometimes and I deal with people all day long.

I most certainly have had social anxiety in addition to agoraphobia, panic disorder, and OCPD. This goes back over 15 years even. That stuff is just in remission now, except for OCPD and I consider that a good thing.

The thing is that these meds allow me to function independently whereas before the pills I was housebound. In the end it was my choice to have a job thats basically forced exposure therapy but without the pills I doubt I would have had to courage to continue with the job.

So yeah, I do give the xanax and prozac a lot of credit but I give myself credit for change as well.

I admit that I am predjudiced against drugs up front. I prefer self-medicating with alcohol, caffeine, and food. I have sort of given up smoking
( I don't smoke regularly, but I occasionally smoke cigars).
A lot of the antidepressants and anti-anxiety meds have nasty, poorly understood side effects- for example, anti-depressants often totally erase people's sex drive, and anti-anxiety drugs cause permanent neurological damage.

I thought being cured means you don't need the pills anymore? I'd love to be cured, though I'm not sure what from.

Congrats. I'm gonna try to cure it without meds though. At the last resort I will take meds.
