Had another night terror tonight

So i just woke up, and i dont even remember what i was seeing/dreaming, except i woke up feeling absolutely terrified and i was screaming bloody murder. I had jumped out of bed and was trying to fight off somthing only i could see.

This used to scare my wife pretty badly, but weve researched this and been to doctors and while it might startle her if she's sleeping, it doesnt SCARE her anymore. All i remember is her softly saying my name a few times untill i woke up and i remember being so confused, that i was standing, that i was so terrified, and not remembering how i got up.

Im having a cup of tea trying to slow my mind down. I havnt had an NT in quite a while, my anti-depressants help that, but id almost forgotten how scary they can be.

Not sure if there will be much sleep left for me tonight.

Sorry to hear, gunman. :( I've never really heard of an actual case of night terrors. Usually whenever the term night terror comes to mind, I still get that mental scene from that episode of Gilmore Girls where Kirk runs out of the Inn butt naked with nothing but a pillow.::p: ...I honestly wish I could find a video of that...

Humor aside, those really do sound terrifying. D: Amazing how they don't even scare your wife anymore. I'd still be terrified!

Hm, have you ever heard of Bach's Rescue Remedy? It's an all natural combination of flower essences and alcohol (brandy to be exact). It has a really nice calming effect. I wonder if it might work if you took it before you went to sleep? Maybe it could help prevent them?

Just a thought.

lol, ive never tried it...is it an actual alcoholic drink? or a tea mixture?

ive had them most of my life, but since ive been on wellbutrin it helped reduce them greatly. Certain things can increase my chances of having one, eating a heavy meal less than an hour before bed, not keeping a consistent sleep schedule, or sleeping in an unfamiliar location. Sometimes if my wife gets up out of bed in the middle of the night i'll get up and wander around after her trying to make sure she's alright even though im still asleep.

Ive gotten up and run aroudn the house several times screaming, its amazing i havnt run into anything and hurt myself. My doctor told us one of the worst things she could do is try to restrain me, because then i might incorporate her into whatever is scaring me and attack her. My doc takes it very seriously, as he has another patient who attacked his son one night when his son tried to restrain him. I would just die if i ever hurt my beloved. So instead she just calls my name softly a few times to get my attention, and talks me down untill i wake up. Usually the sound of her voice is enough to bring me out of it.

If im asleep before she is, her coming down the stairs can sometimes trigger it. We discovered if she makes little "cat sounds", i dont have one, probably because our kitties are always nocturnal and they never trigger one.

^ Bach's Rescue Remedy is just a solution of flower essences and alcohol (only 27%). It comes in a little eye dropper bottle. Not sure how much it is, since the bottle I have my cousin gave to me. She had a whole bunch of them from when she worked at a natural food store. They just gave them to her for some reason. So I took a couple. ::p:

Oh, well glad you don't have them too often. They're scary enough as it is! Makes sense to not restrain you. I read somewhere that with those who sleepwalk, the worst thing you could do is wake them up or touch them. I guess it does the same thing, freaks them out? Sends them into panic? I used to sleepwalk ALOT when I was younger. I would even talk and everything, it was creepy. I mean, I obviously wouldn't always remember, but there were times where I heard the voices in my head, and kinda 'knew' what I was doing, yet I thought I was just sleeping and dreaming. And there was just a little nag in the back of my mind that said "Don't wake up." So weird. My parents and my brother never woke me when I did it. They just let me do my thing and I would eventually go back to bed. So glad I don't have them anymore.

Anyway, I'm glad you at least found something that works for you, even if it doesn't get rid of them completely. I hope you are feeling a lot calmer now. :) Try and get some rest.

Ha, the other day i woke up after doing another of my "sleep-kick"s. At least i didn't kick the wall (& drawing blood) this time!. I had just kicked a carbroad box off my bed. Lucky i dont have a wife!. I probably have also thrown the odd punch too over the ears. In the dream of course i will have been kicking my "enemy", and i almost always wake immediately after, quite often in a pool of sweat. As a child i used to have screaming nightmares, but AFAIK didnt sleep-walk.

the worst i ever did was punch the cement wall in the basement and split my knuckles open. After that i was put on wellbutrin and that drummed things down quite alot.

Crazy stuff though.
