Gameplay 9.5/10 :D

I'll take your word, uhm ... score for it. :)

There was good potential for the game, with the Angelus and everything. And with certain aspects of the sequel they did a decent and occasionally a good job, but they just got the whole atmosphere so wrong.

No more freeroam, powers are watered down, a short part in you almost exclusively fight bright colored enemies with far fetched armors, Jackie looks like a short rock star, light literally blinds you now for some reason, and the graphics are ruined by this ambitious cell shade look that fails all over the board.

One example of this is that once you return to the Hell, instead of being grim and terrifying like it was in the first, it's just kinda rocky and very purple. It looks like a covenant ship interior.

It's just.. wrong.

Doesn't sound like The Darkness at all, so no thanks. If anything, an expansion set in the first game, with more locations in the city and more buildings to go in to would have been enough.

To date, I still listen to the soundtrack. The music is wonderful, it takes me into the feeling and atmosphere, and back to the time when I played the game. That is truly an achievement of a masterpiece.

The whole thing was so well rounded.

Few games suck me in, but sitting in the apartment watching TV, I have to admit it made me feel very mellow and relaxed. Same thing every time I stepped into the subway, I took my time to walk around and get to where I needed to go. And what also impressed me was the amazing way they managed to mix realistic settings with the supernatural (something that is quite absent in the sequel).

That's really what struck me about it. It felt like a rich, balanced, experience.

I agree with everything. It was very welcoming to come back to "reality", sit on the train just like anyone else, and then unleash the powers once you had left the station and returned to the darkness and solitude of the streets. In another scenario, they could just aswell had given you the opportunity to go crazy in the subway, that would have ruined the entire experience and worn out the game out really fast. This idea, as you say, of mixing the two worlds felt very suiting for me because of the way I am.
The time I played it, it was autumn. Darkness outside, wind in the dead trees ... It couldn't have been any better.

It's funny you should say that, since in the sequel that's pretty much what you do shortly into the game; epic battle in the subway (that continues on the track (after a train derails in it)). My first thought when this happened was ''Well, then how do I get around with the subway out of order?''. To find out that you in fact didn't get around, instead of traveling you're escorted by the game to linear (colorful) levels without any exploration to speak off.

What the first did so well was pace itself and made the situation believable given your role as ''puppet'' of the Darkness. Heck, I can't even recall the time I've spend looking at signs and getting lost like I do in real life, finding all sorts of collectible notes that I overlooked earlier. And even if you were to go the right way first time around, you're not constantly shot at.

I was trying to find something appropiate for my reaction for Rome II. I looked up further details right after your post, so feel honoured to have been the first to enlighten me Remus. I read about this earlier, but had completley forgot about it.

This is my reaction, all happiness as you can see.

Rome Total War was one of my favourite games of all time, let's see if RTW2 is as good as the previous one.

I finally ordered MW3 online .. I was planning to never get it out of principles. (I hate the teams working on it and they dare to call it a brand new game while it's just a copy of the previous games with new maps .. more like DLC that is.) Anyway, I just bought it cause I'm officially looking for a job now and might be home for a long while, and it seemed like it's still a fun game. ::p: I told myself Not to get Any DLC for MW3, but Steam has both Collection 1 and 2 on -50% ... Maybe ... Should I ?

Finally played through Mass Effect 3's extended cut ending.

It was a LOT better than the nonsense that we had before. I finally got closure for the characters and what happened to the rest of the galaxy.

Unfortunately there's still the existence of that starchild hologram thingy that just completely ruins the mystery of the Reapers, a shame really but what can you do.

I don't think it was needed, it didn't provide any more closure then what we were given the first time around.

Before the extended cut there were 4 endings, after the extended cut there were 4 endings. The only thing that changed was that each ending was spelled out for you in the extended cut.

It still doesn't solve the problem that Mass Effect 3 is a stand alone game, nothing you did in the entire game changes what those 4 endings are.

Mass Effect 1 and 2 were intertwined because of their choices, Mass Effect 3 nullified everything you ever did and just got to the finish line in 1 of 4 possible ways.

Plus the fact that the "Paragon" choice is what you killed Saren for in the first game.

I'm currently wondering about Dead Island ... Should I get it or not .. According to Youtube videos it has nice scenery, but I think it might bore me quite soon. I'm not sure .. Btw, in case anyone's interested for a mw3 game or something, my steam id is: Ignace93

I bought Dead Island in the sale now. At first I thought it was a mistake, wasn't impressed at all. Story, characters, intro, the first fight ... But then I got more and more into it. Now it's brilliant. I really like the game. Of course some things could have been improved, but the game has really brought something new to the genre and seems to be one of the first games that actually catch the spirit of the zombie apocalypse.
