Restless legs is a disorder that causes unpleasant sensations in the legs while lying down. These sensations, which are often described as a creeping or crawling sensation in the calves, typically occur at bedtime when the person is still awake, and can therefore make it difficult to fall asleep. Many people with Periodic limb movements also have restless legs syndrome, and almost all people with restless legs have Periodic limb movements.

Restless leg syndrome affects as much as 2-5 percent of the population.

I have one restless leg (lol) that becomes restless usually when I go to bed. It's very irritating. I was wondering if other SP's have this too?
If I would think of what the cause might be, I think it may have to do with the fact that my restless leg is urging me to move(forward), or to come inside my body(be more grounded).

According to
this article
RLS sufferers also have often other problems like anxiety, depression, problems at work(or no work) :

People who suffer from restless leg syndrome often have other psychiatric symptoms, including depression and anxiety. Other risk factors are heavy smoking, unemployment status, hypertension, gastroesophageal reflux disease, arthritis, and diabetes. Sleep apnea and insomnia appear to be other risk factors for restless leg syndrome, along with difficulty falling asleep (taking more than 30 minutes), driving while drowsy and excessive daytime fatigue. Subjects with self-reported restless leg syndrome also have a higher incidence of being late for work, missing work, making errors at work and missing social events because of fatigue more often than those without restless leg syndrome.

I always bounce my legs up and down. But I believe I got this from my dad. He does it all the time. I do it and so does my sister. I'm doing it now, actually.

I have anxiety. (Duh) Acid reflux... sorta.. I get heartburn a lot. I have a lot of problems falling asleep..sometimes.. and a lot of the time I am very tired during the day. I sleep ten hours a night and sometimes take naps. When I go to sleep sometimes I shake my foot and then I think " well I'm not going to be able to go to sleep if I keep moving" and then I stop but it feels strange not to be moving.

My mom has mentioned to me that I might have this. I don't think it's too serious of a problem though.

Hi

Beta blockers are a heart medication often given to people with high blood pressure but they can also be used to help reduce physical effects of anxiety like a as racin heart because they work on blockin the effects of adrenaline through out your bod! I find they got rid of my restless leg syndrome also!

Hi

I would have thought in a way you could call it a disabilty because the sleep deprivation it leads to could limit daily activities due to exhaustion! :?

No, I hadn't heard of this cure before. It would be interesting to know if it works for you though when you try it. It can't do any harm anyway, since it's all natural. :)

No, I don't think i have it. I do bounce my legs when seated at times, or when I'm nervous, but not enough to classify it as a syndrome. I do move around a lot though. I touch my face a ton.

I get it sometimes but it's rare. And it's usually when I'm sitting, not sleeping. Feels like someone is tickling the inside of my legs with a feather. o_o

And, I'm sorry, but if RLS counts as a disability my SA should too...since it's about as annoying as getting hiccups.

I do not really have RLS at night, but sometimes I get shocking aching legs...but I am a chronic leg shaker...but also I am a bad figiter...if I am not shaking my legs my hands are moving. I always get told off for that but I cannot stop...actually I have been thinking of goin to see a doc, its getting real annoying...I can be calm as, totally relaxed, but my legs never do

Those of you who think you might have it, check out the magnesium defficiency connection.. Magnesium is a really important mineral and lack of it can cause anxiety, social anxiety, leg cramps or restless leg syndrome and a bunch of other health and mental health-related things.. there's lots of info online..

some drugs or chemicals or stress/worries or other health conditions can reduce your magnesium levels too..
