Do people always assume you're smart just because you're

quiet? (I couldn't fit it in the subject)

I've noticed that a lot of people always think that "the quiet ones" are really smart.

Yes... I honestly think they're just trying to be nice I really don't see how they couldn't see me as anything but a complete moron.

Actually, I am relatively smart as far as critical thinking or working out solutions to a problem (not math related... I suck at math) but really when I'm anxious I don't exercise either of these...

And everyone thinks I'm a computer wiz >.< I can turn the computer on. I can turn it off. I can type and use the internet but I know nothing technical about the computer whatsoever... well other than I have windows vista and I know its crap :p But I've gotten like 5 people come up and ask or suggest that I would be able to help them out with their computer problems and I'm like 8O

And actually, thinking about it being a master at something like this could help with social anxiety I think but I really don't want to succumb to such a negative stereotype as a computer nerd. My self-esteem is low enough ya don't need to make it worse.

Yes, you are right about one subject.Quiet people knows how to listen and love see the enviroment...

But it is not true that quiet people are brilliant. If a person does not know anyhing about a subject, How can he/she talk about that?

1) Wise men (and women) keep their thoughts to themselves while fools talk. I can't think of the real quote, but that's the idea.

2) I think that people subconsciously know that they say a lot of stupid things when they talk, so they see quiet people as smarter. Or something.

3) People who don't talk actually listen to what is happening around them, so they learn more!

People say this to me all the time. I am good at some subjects in school, but it takes me time to learn others.

Smart? Riight. People know I'm retarded, but somehow manage to accept me anyway. So I'm learning to do the same. What else can you do?

Yeah - God, i am so used to this sort of thing! I'm quiet and i like books, so that makes me a genius, right?

I really hate it when people assume i'm smart. It puts me under so much unnecessary pressure. Like, i'm doing my GSCE exams at the moment - people keep saying stuff to me like "you've got no need to worry, because you'll pass anyway" But so far they are going really badly. My anxiety is so bad when i'm taking the exams that i can barely concentrate. I won't be able to show my face when i fail everything. I might have to hide in a paper bag for the rest of my sad little life...

I guess i am kind of smart - but the stuff i know is all really useless crap, like the Latin names of plants, or 19th century poets

Lol. There is a similar thread somewhere saying that people assume you're stupid if you don't say much... The only way to counter it is to show you're your true self to people rather than letting them come to conclusions based on your quietness alone, whatever those might be (based on their own prejudices about quiet people.)

Ah, you'll be fine. Honestly. I know that's the standard response of pretty much everyone when you tell them that you think your exam has/is going to go badly, but those reassurances are somehow always given credence.

I thought that I'd done rubbishly in pretty much every exam I've ever taken, yet they've pretty much all gone well. It's probably becuase I set the bar too high with regard to my expectation of how easy it's going to be. The ones to be slightly more worried about are the ones that you're naurally inclined to feel relaxed about, or that you're 'pretty sure' you've aced. They don't usually come off all too well...

I have an exam next tues. I've only covered about 1/2 of the course material, yet for some reason I feel totally at ease. Needless to say, this makes me feel apprehensive. Kind of a catch 22 situation. (I'd better stop writing and start revising)

I got called very smart and retarded at the same time.=( Really got me confused and I think it triggered something in my mind.

Then I figured It meant I was Intellectually smart but Socially dumb. Two different things, but the world accepts you more if you are Intellectually dumb and socially smart than vice versa.

I tend to think people view me as dumb -rather than smart. It was only in later elementary school, middle school, HS, and some college classes where teachers and students actually considered me smart. I think it's because they have seen my hard work and good grades.

But, in my early years of school I was in some special reading classes. I even had to stay back in first grade. I personally find me to be a slow learner in some domains, but I don't consider me stupid because of it.

I think people at work (who don't know my academic achievements) probably consider me dumb and slow. Oh well.
