Demoralising advertising

Okay, whenever I open a thread and look at the contents. The first post on the left will always have this advertisement of people with smirks and smugs and subtitles of put-downs and of course I would be reading a short of post of something so somehow I wouldn't caught the ending of this advert sometimes. It really looks like a recurring nightmare from various people putting you down and why is this accepted here...with people that are socially anxious???

It makes me feel really uncomfortable...seriously.

I know what you mean. It's the same when i buy boxer shorts with a picture of some smug guy with a six pack on the pack, it screams ''Ha ha your not going to look as good as me in these pants!''

On the other hand, advertisers would have you believe that one sip of the correct soft drink will have anorexic supermodels draping off the arm of even the most pathetic loser. My friends, there is hope! :)

That's exactly what I was thinking too. I mean, of all ads to place in a social phobia forum where most people have really low self-esteem?

I think the advertising is localised, meaning you only get ads that are relevant to where you live. For example, I get adverts on this forum to study at certain local universities. What ads are you looking at?

Women in magazines always have picture perfect skin and this can lead to me feeling like complete s***. I'm not about to hold it against marketers or advertisers though. No one wants to see ads with people who have less-than-perfect skin.

They are airbrushed, i bet if you saw them in real life down at the supermarket they'd have less than perfect skin.

I think some of you might have seen it here.

There is this advert call "happiness.org" or something and there was this beginning where people were saying all sorts of insults like, 'give up', 'you'll never make it'...etc.

I find it a bad taste.
