What kind of jobs do you have?

Work in a medical lab, and have done so for many years......work lots
of overtime.....changed jobs frequently over the years....battled with
blushing, negative self talk and depression, but it has improved as I
have had more life experiences(36 now)- use exercise, meditation, healthy eating and klonopin once in a while. Some days are better than
others of course. Don't have to deal with the public, so that's a bonus.

I kinda fail miserably at finding meaningful occupation. It's a mixture of who you know and what you know. Street smarts are prefered as well as some booksmarts. I feel people wouldn't have too much patience for me anyway.

I work for myself doing web programming. Very easy on SA since I never talk to anyone except via email. On the other hand, I miss out on the exposure and possibility of making acquaintances that a normal job would offer. It keeps things from being too bad while pretty much ruling out any chance of improvement.

This may seem strange but at my job I can deal with it fine I work at an amusement park so I am in large crowds all the time which is kind of weird considering I do not like crowds. And I was also somewhat of a boss too, I was like there to assist my boss and part of my job was telling people what to do. It is strange how I did deal with it but I guess it helped that everyone at worked liked me.

I work in a customor service position. Most of the client's questions come in through email, but there are still many times where I have to talk on the phone. I do okay at it, as I feel that I hide my social anxiety pretty well. I do not generally start conversations with people, but when they talk to me I think that I do an ok job of keeping it going. I can also be very, very weird and awkward though. I'm practically in a constant state of anxiety throughout the day, but I manage. Some days are worse than others.

im web developer also, the profession itself dont need much social skills, but since i'm the person in charge of all the companies programmin i often have to get face to face with people i dont know - clients and guys from other companies , and the designers , and the vp personal (those guys are really stuborn)- which is the harderst part, but believe me you get used to.

how i do for work, well i got my first job in a freaking bad way, my family was just passing through a bad financial time , an they put a big fight ... so i got my first job as a trainee client support on a software firm - it was terrible , they moved me for a programming position , but the damage was already done... so i changed job, the secont i was junior programmer , ERP and CRM stuff , i keep that job more 6 months, it was alright but not my true focus, then i found my actual job, wich i came to love - i'm the guy that makes all programming stuff in a webdeveliping firm. I was also thinking about freelancing but i'm to recluse to it =/

bottomline, it may be hard in the beggining, but you need to get over it to find a realising job, which is your way to live.

my problem about jobs and people now is that i can't say negative things i don't know how to say no. and i always "bend" under pressure... all because of automatic thoughts and SA - i know i'm right but i do otherwise because of people.

*i'm 20 i started out with 17, so you may notice i'm one more on the always changing jobs statitics

I'm having a tough time getting the job I want, so I decided to get a crappy retail job in the meantime. Either a grocery store or something like Walmart as a stocker. Has anyone worked at either of these places? How is the job on your anxiety? I've been out of work for 6 months because of anxiety and I wanna get back into things slowly. Would this be a good job for that? Staying at home with no friends is starting to drive me nuts!

I work as a coordinator at an Information Technology center. I hate my job since I have to deal with people face-to-face on a daily basis.

Hey, those would probably be good jobs for you. And I don't think you will have to talk to people very often or have much interaction with customers. Though when you're stocking the shelves a few people might come up asking you which aisle something is in. I worked at Target before, for like 3 days, and ended up quitting because they made us use these walkie-talkies all the time and I was damn near ready to have a nervous breakdown because of it. But I don't really think Wal-Mart or grocery stores have walkie-talkies like that that you'd have to use. Oh yeah, and I basically just fixed things on the shelves to make it look nice and didn't have to talk to many people at Target (except for the few customers asking where certain things were). Good luck job hunting!

I for one would hate to work at a retail place. I find it embarrassing .. like it's only for people who have no education or are currently going to school. Either that or the people don't have the necessary "credentials" or whatever to work at a better place. I have just started college and the only jobs I can get are those (because I don't have any previous experience). I would just feel belittled as I might see one of my peers who is the same age as me, working at some office or in some better job and I'm still at some low end job. Makes me look real good..

I'm a scientist! 8)

Unfortunately SA can be a major problem in this field too. I flunked my PhD due to the SA and depression, and I'm now reduced to living on small grants for petty projects. Everything larger (and more stable careerwise) would require better co-operation with colleagues. And then there's the issue of peer preview...

I worked data entry while studying in college. Then my SA started kicking my butt. Been taking a break from college and have been a janitor for the school district for 15 months.

I am a computer systems consultant. I don't have a problem talking to customers on the phone or doing live presentations for customers. But just being in non-work related social situations really kicks my butt.
