What Do You Do To Get Going?

I'm struggling to get motivated to tidy the flat. I would be understating if I said it was a tip ::(: I hate it, yet I'm finding it very hard to get moving, I want to but my mind doesn't (I think of my mind in 3rd person, only way I can 'trick' it). My husband works nights and sleeps during the day so I feel really bad to get him to help as I'm always home (agoraphobia) and feel I should do it all myself, which then leads to a ton of guilt on my shoulders.

Anybody have any motivation tips? Any tips I can try I would be really appreciative and hopefully someone else can try some too :)

I really struggle with this myself..it's not something I have completely beaten yet but I find it I get up in the morning and make a brew and put tv or the pc on,then I will probably just cabbage for most of the day.Where if I get up and start on the cleaning straight away that puts me in a better frame of mind.

Another thing is,you sometimes just need to bite the bullet and force yourself to do it.I know when you lack motivation, things tend to build up to the point they over whelm you,but just try doing a little job first..if you can just get the ball rolling,it normally gets you into the swing of things and you end up blitzing the whole house.

Yeah I find that when I drink coffee and watch the tube I cannot get going at all.

It takes me a lot of will power to get up and start the day. But if I manage to get up earlier instead of sleeping in I noticed that I get so much more done.

Make a list, as detailed as you like. Don't start with 'clean the house' because that's a big vague goal, and already looks overwhelming, break it down into small steps.. doesn't matter how small. 'wash this coffee mug' will do it, or even, hell, 'make to-do list.'

Do that small first thing, cross it off the list, use that small feeling of accomplishment to move to the next, slightly bigger thing. One step at a time and all that.

Sods law, I switched off the laptop just after posting, put some music on on the xbox and the door bell rings. My mum and brother, they've just left and I'm again trying to muster the motivation. No idea where to start lol. The tips so far are great, thank you :) going to start small and hopefully get the engine rolling.
Happy thoughts to all x

I've been having that problem too...not feeling motivated. Granted I feel sick most of the time, and when I don't feel sick I feel really sleepy....but still, I should at least do the basics if nothing else. I find if I put on some music and just start doing it I can keep going for awhile...it's just that initial "umph".

I know how it feels. I don't have the motivation to do much of anything. My bedroom is an absolute disaster and I can't clean it. It's beyond clutter. I have so much to throw out and so much to sort through and not enough space for everything. It's such a daunting task. I guess I'm a bit of a hoarder.::eek:: The once in a while that I do get some time and energy to clean, I'll just get started and that's as far as I get. Even if I make significant progress, it's still back to chaos before I get around to continuing.::(:
