What do you do to get away...

What do you guys do to just get away from the stress caused by SAD?

I go fishing and snowboarding just about every weekend (by my self of coarse::(:).
I also listen to music.

Music. I suspect that a lot of people here also find solace in music.

People with SAD tend to be very sensitive to things that normal people simply can't experience. Through music I can go to places and experience certain moods that you can't experience from just the five senses.

I've actually learned to embrace these aspects of myself . The so-called "normal" people are the ones who miss out :) For them, they just listen to a simplistic song, sing along for a while, and then completely forget about it. For us, music is so much more.

I completely agree, I self medicate through music. When im depressed or feeling down i listen to music and it really helps. My favorite band is Rise Against and they are so inspiring. I have to listen to music before i go to school or else i feel horrible the whole day.

What an optimist you are!lol

I noticed though music sounds awful when your anxious, distorted and just different like I can't hear all sounds I hear when Iam not anxious.
There's a scientific explanation for that so I know Iam not alone with this

If you knew me, you would understand how much of an absolute shock it would be for someone to use the word "optimist" to refer to me !

I used to be a really really bad SAD sufferer, but after I've gotten better I've simply learned how to view things under a different light. Things that I used to beat myself up over, I now understand are things that "normal" people also do. And often they are things that normal people aren't privileged to experience because they are not as sensitive.

I'm not really being an optimist just seeing things for what they are and not unfairly beating myself up.

I was reffering to the "normal people miss out on this". True sensitivness has it's good and bad things. People in this world need sensitive people. Example: Iam like a bird that workers who work in underground mines put down there first to see if there is enough/air to breath. If the bird survives this means all people can breath down their too so it's safe. If you know what I mean. Sorry for my lack of English if that sounds confusing

Makes perfect sense. Because of our sensitivity, we can soar highest in the heights of life , but also wallow in the lowest depths of despair.

Still, i prefer it this way. And if I can be that bird to help people, then so be it.

Yep
I agree with you all about being more sensetive to things such as music than normal people. However on the other side i go to a music college, i find that most people are more normal and i havnt come across anyone with the shyness i have. Atleast who ive come across

Music is my main escape, and also the thing i love to do the most, that is listening, playing and writing.

Listen to my music - it definately helps to transport me to calmer waters :)

As I don't go out often, and if stressed out - I would try to avoid having to go out at all costs, I find solace using my computer and staying indoors where I can 'control' things / my stressors, for want of a better way to explain things.

When I really feel stressed out, I'll retreat to my room for a nap and close the curtains (don't often have them open too much anyway).

I also love watching funny movies that make me laugh.
Laughter really does help heal.

"Planes, Trains and Automobiles" is my favourite comedy at present :)
