What Disability Would You Trade SA For?

If you could trade your SA right now for another disability, which ones would you be willing to trade for? And which ones would you not be willing to trade for?

I would probably accept being in a wheelchair (as long it was only my legs that were paralysed).

I don't think I would accept being blind or deaf. Actually I dunno, lots of blind and deaf people seem to be pretty happy.

Stuttering would definitely be a no-no, that would cause SA I think.

I hope this post isn't in bad taste....

I'm not sure really - um... definately not an intellectual one - don't think i could handle that. I guess i could handle being deaf.

I can't honestly say I'd like to trade social phobia for any other emotional, physical, or sensory disability. At least with social phobia, there is the possibility of overcoming and/or significantly managing the symptoms.

If your blind, deaf, mute, paralyzed, ect ect, the odds are not as promising.

I think if you traded it for something else the you would soon become annoyed with that disability, a disablity is exactly what it says it is, in that it disables you from doing somthing. I mean, sure it might sound good but do you think you could go without hearing or go with being in a wheel chair rather than have SA and dont you think if you aksed a person in a wheel chair what they would prefer then they would probably rather be able to walk and have SA rather than be stuck in a chair and needing people do do simple stuff for you.

Atleats with SA you always have the hope that one day you might overcome it but other disabilities are for life.

Interesting replies so far (especially McShy's!).

What I was looking for was to see who hates their SA so much that they'd be desperate enough to get rid of it for anything. I guess the responses were pretty mixed, though I must admit I expected more replies saying that would trade it for some things.

Yeah, fair point. Obviously it would be a disability being in a wheelchair and I'm not saying it would be easy, but I think the things it limits you to are different than having SA. I have a friend who's in a wheelchair and he lives a very full and happy life - he plays sports, has a good job, is married, and has more of a 'normal' life than me probably!

But maybe the grass is always greener...

double LOL 8O yeah, me 2

I would trade my SA for AIDS, deafness, blindness, cancer, being in a weelchair and all the other things I mentioned in my other posts. SA along with depression is a life wrecker, dammit

I was worried it might cause offence - I certainly don't want to belittle any other disability.

wow....I think this is in extremely bad taste.

As for 'swapping' social anxiety for a physical illness....well I am very happy that I am physically well...and hope it lasts.

I'd trade SP for my left arm

I think obvious physical disabilities such as a missing limb are much better understood and accepted by society than SP is

without an arm people wouldnt expect me to do things that I can't and any attempt on my behalf to push my limits would be met with congratulations and respect as opposed to that stoney cold look with eyes that scream "what the fuck is wrong with you? why cant you stop stuttering and be normal"

socialising and forming relationships is something that most people manage to do naturally and I dont think there is much respect for those of us who have difficulty, instead we are just labelled "losers" "hermits" or "weird"

sometimes I feel that the things society expects me to do is akin to asking a one armed man to swing his way across a rope netting on an army assault course with no encouragement or kind words if he manages by some miracle to get across, instead just another obstical waiting, and another, and another, with no chance of ever catching up with his peers. if you fall in the mud then too bad loser

Nicely said, good analogy ;)

Deaf Guy with SP

Hi everyone,

This is my first post! I'm a newbie!!! This is an interesting topic... I have Social Phobia/Social Anxiety as well as also being Deaf too!

To Deaf people, they don't really think deafness is a disability at all. It is actually a cultural minority because we have our own language (American Sign Language)

Which one is easier in life? Being Deaf or having SA... Oh that's an easy answer!!!!!! Being Deaf is much much much easier than having SA anytime!!! It's not really a disability if you have been deaf since age of one.... Makes sense? :)

I have been reading some of your posts. Definitely some great people here!! Looking forward to post some more....

Seattle Guy :p

Wow, kinda shocked at this thread...I have a friend with cerebral palsy, and he can hardly even move, or speak. How on earth could that be better than sa. Wake up. You won't realise what you've got till it's gone, then it'll be too late.

As for the person who said AIDS/Cancer..What are you thinking?
