University Advice Please?

Hi, so, uh, I'm kinda new here, so..forgive me. I need some advice on something, I guess.

So, I'm a 2nd year University student, and get really bad social anxiety. Avoid public transport, go to the supermarket at midnight, emails as opposed to phone calls.. You get the gist.
So going to uni classes is..fun. Lectures of 400+ people. People pushing, yelling, shoving. Not really my thing. So, I can't go to class, unless I want to puke, which isn't all that fun. Unfortunately, you have to go to a minimum of 75% of classes to pass. I think you can see where that's going.....

Decided I'd take intermission for 2014, try to see a psychiatrist on a regular basis in an effort to get my anxiety (and depression) under enough control by the beginning of next year that I can go back to uni in 2015. I love uni, I love learning things. Just. People..

The thing is. I did great in high school. Didn't have (excessive) problems with people, and (forgive me) I'm reasonably intelligent, so I didn't have to try too hard. I know I can do the uni work, it's no harder than year 12. But I just feel like crap for having to take intermission this year. I know it's necessary, and the best course of action for me. But I've always done really well, so it's really getting to me.
That. And I don't know what to do this year. I can't work, because, well, people. So, just, urgh..
Thoughts? Suggestions?

Anywho. I hope everyone had a lovely Christmas and New Years.

Don't feel bad. College is an entirely different world from high school, and there's a lot more that has to be endured and achieved to get through it. It took me six years to get my four-year degree; some years I just had to back off and take it really slowly. It also took me a long time to accept the fact that I wasn't going to be a straight A student anymore, like I had been in high school. Sometimes you have to concentrate all your energy on just getting through the semester with a decent enough grade.
As for the crowded lecture halls, is there a way you can schedule your classes so that you have time to arrive early for each one, and thus pick a nice corner seat where you won't be hassled by the others? Lecture halls tend to become less crowded as the semester progresses, and I've also noticed that the front rows are usually more vacant and filled with quieter, more serious students who are there to pay attention and not clown around.
Best of luck! It's not easy, but you can get through this. :)
