Telephone Interview..

So I applied for this job a few weeks ago and I just got a text message asking me to book a time for a telephone interview A.S.A.P ..

I hate telephones and when talking to someone on the other end, I just can't hang up quick enough, so I find myself rushing through the conversation which leads to the person on the other side not being able to fully understand what I'm saying.

To make things worse I chose not to go to sleep last night and my anxiety levels are sky high at the moment. So I don't think I could make it to the end of this interview without flipping out.

If it was a normal face to face interview, I'm sure I could prepare for that no problem at all.

I think I might just have to pass this opportunity by. ::(:

Consider doing it anyway with the view that you don't care if you get the job and that its a bit of telephone practise. ?

I'd like to do it and I'd really like to get the job as I've been out of employment for a while now. I know what you mean by the telephone practice but it doesn't matter how much I expose myself to something, I don't seem to get any better at it. And there's always the whole rejection thing to deal with if I'm not successful, which would just drive me into a deeper state of depression which I can't be done with just now.

Daz... I've had a telephone interview and absolutely hate speaking on phones. It's not that bad just remain fully concentrated on what there asking you and try and speak clearly without mumbling. I didn't get the job after but was happy I put myself through it. It's an experience at the end of the day.

Take a nap if you have time? If you prefer face to face interviews, you could put up a picture of someone on a wall and pretend it's the person talking to you

Urgh, I'm exactly the same -- I try and avoid anything to do with making phone-calls at all costs. I had a telephone interview a few years back, which didn't go too badly; very few awkward silences, and what helped was having possible answers to questions and talking points noted down in front of me. Not sure it'll work as well for everyone; I guess it depends on whether you're good at guessing what they'll ask. Anyway, give it a go -- it might go well! :)
