I hate Facebook because it just feels like it's ALL about how many friends you have, and I barely have any, and those I do have are mostly people who I know online (which is probably obvious since they live all over the place and none of them are in my area)
Same here, I feel stupid, everyone else has hundreds of friends, I have hardly any...but I wonder, how can people have hundreds of friends anyway...are you just supposed to go around adding people that you might have only spoken to once, and call them a friends?
Eeyupp....that's how it works.
Actually, many people will ask to be a "friend" even if you have never talked to them before. The word is meaningless on sites like Youtube,MySpace, and Facebook. In my own case,I'm on Youtube and I comment a bit there and I get friend invites based mostly upon my comments I guess. For example,I just said 1 little word to a 14 year old kid and he apparently found it so hilarious that he invited me to be a "friend".
In 2 other cases at Youtube I'd never talked to two Chinese people and I wanted to talk to them because one seemed nice and the other interesting and I left them each a quick note about how I was looking for some mainland Chinese people to add to my list and talk to a bit and they are now on my "friends list". (it's hard to talk to mainland Chinese on the net to learn about life behind the "bamboo curtain" so when I saw them I jumped at the opportunity to ask them. )
For best results in accumulating "friends", it would seem that a cool, sexy name along with a sexy photo is most effective. Then people will gravitate toward you and you can have lots of fake friends and then pretend that you are really, really popular. If you pick a name like...oh...say...."Blondie"...and then have an avatar that shows a sexy, blonde gal, then you'll get lots of "pretend-friend" invites.
