Stop your negative thinking right meow >:(

I've been in the worst of moods all day. All I could think of is my ex-girlfriend who dumped me two weeks ago and it's making me super depressed. Then I started thinking about maybe meeting other girls but a little voice in my head told me that I'm a loser and I suck at meeting girls because I simply talk to people :(

But this isn't just another negative rant thread! I did something to change my mood. And it actually worked............

All I did was start thinking of my favourite song. I just stopped thinking about how much I suck, and started thinking of my favourite song instead. And you know what? I feel great now! I'm in a really good mood right now!

That's it. It's as simple as interrupting your automatic negative thoughts with a song. Just distract your mind and life seems less terrible. Even enjoyable :)

Now for your homework >=) you have to try it! Well you don't have to, but I'd be disappointed in you if you didn't! Give it a shot and tell me how you feel!!!!

I will tell you how it goes :)

This is obviously true, but it seems to be quite difficult. The first thing I noticed on this website was that it was like listening to myself (everything, not just the "venting"), and the second that the "venting" really is pointless. It is easier to see that when someone else does it.

It does also set up a self-fulfilling prophecy. Perfectionism is a part of social phobia. A perfectionist does even attempt something if they do not think they can do it perfectly. So these negative thoughts - which create predictions - prevent any attempt at change.

Instead of wallowing (sorry, venting) the negative, self-defeating thoughts must be challenged instead.

Yes I am learning to perfect this technique and have gotten much better at it! Although I'm not a big music fan, so I substitute it with television or a video game (Although never in multiplayer, once I kept dying in the game which made me even more depressed lol)
