I personally don't fare well in small, tight-knit communities where everyone knows each other because I'm not a social person. I like privacy and anonymity.

Yep, same here.

I liked uni over school for the same reason.

I live in a large city and I don't much like it. It's crowded and you have to go through a million faces to do absolutely anything, and being alone anywhere is next to impossible. And simultaneously, unless you reach out to people or make yourself noticed, it's very easy to go uncared about.
