Sexual side effects of my meds

I'm kind of embarrassed to let my therapist know that the medication I'm taking currently prevents me from climaxing. Especially since she knows I'm not currently in a relationship.

Because of this, every once in a while I have to take matters into my own hands if you know what I mean. I'm concerned that she'll judge me.....but I need to tell her this because I'd prefer she change the medicine and it is taking a toll on me. What should I do?

You definitely have to let your therapist know about the side affects, if it's affecting your relationship in any way then the embarrassment of telling her is nothing. Obviously thos meds aren't compatible with you and i'm sure your therapist will be happy to change them until you find the right one to suit you.

Let them know because they will have heard it all before, the sexual side effects are extremely common and I'm surprised she didnt warn you about them.

I understand how difficult it is to reveal something so personal about yourself - even to your therapist. But, like Elad said, I'm sure she's heard it all before, and she won't judge you if she's professional at all.

Just don't mention the part about the goat.

I got this with some of the anti depressants I've taken, but I didn't get it with some others. The ones I got it with were citalopram and amitriptyline.

Could any of you share your experience about how long this took to kick in, and how long it took to go again? It's happened to me and it's making me very nervous, as the advice seems to generally be to take a day off the meds and see what happens, but that made no difference.

I know, I know, I'm going to the doctor ASAP. I'd just like to be more informed beforehand.

You could ask to switch to wellbutrin, its supposed to be the only one that doesnt cause those issues. I was on citalopram and it gave me bad problems with ED...that was really depressing.....Wellbutrin fixed that.

Just an alternative :)

The only way to fix the problem is to be open about it no matter how embarassing it is. The therapist is there to help you.
