Well, it could have probably been said in one of two contexts.

First, it could mean that this So-Called-Friend is finding you a little too clingy, and might want to spread their wings a bit. I've found that this is most often the case when they've discovered someone they're interested in romantically, and would like an opportunity to see where things could go with them.

But in another direction, they could merely be worried about you, or they could have a poor self-image and think that they're holding you back from experiencing a fulfilling existence.

To find out which of the reasons are most likely, you should probably wait a little while to see if your So-Called-Friend starts to act a little more coldly towards you. If they do get this way, then it's probably the first option, but if they act the same as ever, then it's #2 (or 2.5), and you should talk about it further with them, simply to dispel any notions they've got about holding you back or whatnot.

Best of luck, though. I'm hoping for Option 2 for ya.

Sounds about right to me. Statements like that aren't always malicious.
