In a crowded place with bright lights and a camera..I’ve been avoiding this for a week and I have to do it before Friday. The other ones were horrible because I kept freaking out and felt like passing out and it was only like thirty seconds..this one is five minutes which sounds short still but it’s weird talking alone it’s like talking to yourself and being watched.. ::(:

I'm no good at presentations. My voice sounds really weird and I cannot focus at all on what I am saying. It's a nightmare.

Presentations are all about preparation. I think people with SA tend to do well because they over prepare. Honestly you'll probably be one of the best presenters compared to your classmates.

I'd say in some ways presentations are even easier than small talk because there is a set goal and there are clearly defined rules about getting there. So unlike small talk there isn't that much uncertainty & unpredictability. That's what i think.

I had to do a 15 minute powerpoint presentation a while ago. I really surprised myself because I'd gone through my topic on time; I was interesting; the audience understood what I was talking about and my voice was loud enough. In the end the judges failed me based on technical reasons (like they didn't point out anything that's SA-related) but even tho I failed I thought I've really outdone myself. 'cause two other presenters who were in my group that day got comments like "too nervous in the beginning", "too tense and stood in the same spot the whole time" etc.

My anxiety is the worst before, during and after presentations unless i have valium, klonopin or xanax. i used to have a few alcoholic beverages before i would do it which kinda helped but not really. try breathing excercises, they kinda work for me but my anxiety usually takes over.

I have a funny anecdote regarding presentations that may make you laugh, maybe not though. One presentation i had to do last semester involved explaining the differences between por and para completely in spanish and it had to be 25 minutes! I got anxious when i read about the presentation in the sylabus months before i was even supposed to give it. Luckily i found someone that could sell me klonopin the week before and i took 2 of them before the presentation and it went great. My teacher even told me that i should be a teacher because im so calm and relaxed when in reality i am the exact opposite.

Yeah it really sucks when your worrying about it beforehand and then when the actual moment is going on it's a frusterating mess..its good you get through them!

I completely agree.. try overpreparing yet my mind still goes blank during the presentation..maybe i should super overprepare..But wow, if you got through fifteen minutes five should be doable =) I'm glad you got stronger from the experiance!!

HAHA wow first off 25 minutes! Klonopin sounds like the way to go since your teacher sounded pretty pleased with it! For now, i just take chamomile/kava tea..

How does that work for you? Ya 25 minutes is a lot but it was a 400 level senior college class so i feel like i should be able to give a 25 minute speech that long in spanish. If only the SAD was not there haha.

the kava tea isn't good for your liver so.. i would only use it a little and not make a habbit out of it. but for the chamomile you can have it whenever and it helps sleep too =)
