OLD MAN WINTER
As Old Man Winter blunders in;
His icy breath upon my neck.
He answers to his northern winds
With a blanket of snow upon my deck.
The frozen ocean - like a white desert.
An oak tree groans in pain.
The days get short and nights grow long;
Yet winter still drones on and on.
Saplings, once tall and full of life -
Weighed down with fallen snow
Are now so badly bent and broken;
There lives are gone, I know.
Many rosy cheeked children
Have caught themselves a cold.
In bed they'll stay tomorrow
As Ole Winter grins, I'm told.
While still in Old Man Winter's grasp,
I pray for the blush of spring.
I tell myself it'll be okay -
The snow should be gone by morning.
