Do you know a special someone in your life who annoys the he!! out of you sometimes?

I do. This morning all before 6:30 am <-- Yes, am, SIL had marched her son over to this calendar she picked up at some school supply store and asked him what day was today so they could change the calendar. Of course, groggy from just waking up he didn't know (he's 3yr old) and she stood there coaxing it, hinting at it, etc. til he got it right then instructed me that "if you can, can you make up some flash cards with his lower case letters and the days and months on them (I silently say, pay me first I might oblige) ...heck, I don't even remember what the day is half the time! Then the dog was barking at something and she kicked him out, shut the doggie door and instructed me to not let him in for about 10 minutes because he is in a "time out" -- a time out for an animal? does that exist? does that work? People really do that?

After she left for work, I am sorry to say that I never did make up any flashcards because I was too busy cleaning up vomit on my bedroom floor from the 3 yr old while the newborn cried so loud I am quite certain the paint started to peel from the walls. Then I had both of them crying. Awesome. two sick kids and an aunt who is on the verge of a nervous breakdown and panic attacks.

Their father (my brother) is on paternity leave but since he rarely goes to bed before 1 am, was sleeping. He finally got up and around then out the door he went to check on 'playground equipment'... meh, whatever.

then she gets home, complains about something she saw on the news and then when my brother enters the room, of course all is calm with the kids - and she starts talking 'baby talk' to my brother. euuu...I'd rather have my eyes poked out with flaming toothpicks. My sister and her boyfriend asked me why she (SIL) always talks like a baby when she talks to my brother....I had no answer.

She told him, "I was bad, I got a starbucks and they were selling something on special so I got some...and I was thinking of buying new pants this weekend because I am not losing all the baby fat as quick as I wanted to, and honey, I need a fridge and microwave in my classroom, can you get one for me tomorrow when you go to costco... and honey, I am so exhausted when I get home from work, What's wrong with me..."

So he told her: well, I'll get the fridge and microwave tomorrow for your classroom at work and we can go shopping this weekend for new clothes, and how about I get you and the kids in bed by 6 pm tonight and maybe you can catch up on sleep. I'll get [the newborn] when she wakes up at night.

I know this is really not a big deal but for some reason, when you hear this crap over and over, day after day, it really gets to a person, I guess.

Have yo ever put your pet in a time out? Do women tend to use 'baby talk' with their significant other? Is this normal?

I actualy do put my cat in a so called timeout. She is a bit ferrel and can have fits of rage sometimes and I will put her in a room and let her calm down and she is usualy ok after 30 minuts or an hour. Otherwize its like ww3 I even have scars from some of her fits. the baby talke I don;t know about I don;t really remember my SIL doing that when she lived with us.

I used to have friends who don't speak English very well, so I started talking like them, using simpler words and stuff. I had a classmate from Australia once and unintentionally, I started speaking like her, trying to imitate her accent. It's weird, I know, but the people around me do influence the way I talk. I think your SIL has immersed herself so much in "baby world" that she has adopted its language.

I do some dog training for a living and time outs do exist but I think the manner is important. Presence and command are very important with dogs. So it shouldn't be haphazard or frazzled sort of punishing to get the most out of it. Seems like common sense but I've seen some people lose their mind at their dogs all the while not getting that he's enjoying their emotional energy.

Living with other people is hard. But necessary sometimes. I don't think I could ever manage to live with a couple for these types of things you describe. Too much I wouldn't want to see or hear.
