My mom is hiding my meds because she thinks I'm fine

I was given medication as part of a clinical study by Mt. Sinai. The medication is called "guanfacine" which is originally used to treat ADD but they are trying to see its effects on schizotypical personality disorder and socially avoidant sufferers in terms of working memory specifically. I'm getting a reimbursement per visit and I've been liking the fact that I get 20-40 bucks per appointment. The doctor's spent weeks getting to know me and interacting with me but my mom is overreacting that by taking "guanfacine" I will become mentally retarded. She's seen it in those movies. She doesn't really think there's anything wrong with me. I feel that I can't stop taking the medicine because I've already accepted the reimbursement. I also want to see its effects on me whether or not I'm taking the actual medication or a placebo.

I have had similar problems with my family when i was on anti-depressants, they were convinced it would make me an emotionless, near catatonic robot. I had to hide my meds and keep it secret.
You could try explaining to your mother, then try hiding your medication, or lie to her and tell her its a placebo or vitamins?

Infact she is doing right, if you want to get well for real why are you taking this risky way of treatment? You're actually getting paid back just because you're putting you mental health on line for their experiment. Think thrice about the outcomes if the med is reactive.

You shouldnt tell someone whats right or wrong, thats a personal opinion. You can say why you feel something is right or wrong and explain your side of the argument, but just because you think something doesnt mean other people have to think the same way.

If you feel the medication is worth a shot to help you, then you should be able to try without your mom forcing you to do what she wants.

I'm assuming youre over 18 cause you were able to sign up for the experiment, but if not that that changes things a bit.
