I take GABA a couple times a day, 750 mg. - been doing this for about 6-7 months. I ran out and the local vitamin shop didn't have any in stock for a week (their next shipment). So, I thought, eh, no big deal...surely I'll be fine.
Turns out, during that week I felt crummy. Irritable, very, very anxious, panic attacks, headaches, and cranky, short tempered.
Well, I did some research online, and I couldn't find much of anything about withdrawal from GABA. Only withdrawal from benzos which is nothing new there. But GABA (supposedly) does not cross the blood-brain barrier so what's with the crabby mood, etc.? I thought it was safe, now I am questioning it.
Was it a placebo effect that I am experiencing while taking GABA?
Are there long-term effects if taking it?
(am I in the same category as Lance Armstrong?) JK
Well, at any rate, the store is finally restocked with GABA, and I am back to taking my usual dosage and feel fine - today was 'challenging' with the kids and I held up well.
Interesting though; I'd like to know more science/experimentation behind GABA so if anyone runs across anything, let me know!
