Mood Swings and OCD

My moods have settled a lot since starting 5 HTP (although I am seriously dreading having my week off from taking it to avoid tolerance!), but I used to have pretty bad mood swings.

Are mood swings just a "normal" part of OCD? Or are they more likely to be caused by my hormonal problems?

I never thought they could be related, maybe they are? Interesting!

I just thought I was sorta bipolar-ish, and tweaking it with nutrition/exercise/lifestyle..?

Maybe all these mental health problems could be related? Some things that help with OCD and ADD and bipolar are basically the same, so these things may have common causes?

I wouldn't be surprised the mood swings have a lot to do with the psychological stress you experience with the intrusive thoughts and or compulsions required to stop those thoughts. I get so overwhelm that I get very moody.

Let alone, you don't want to touch me with anything shorter then a 6-foot pole in the morning, let alone talk to me. I'm not a morning person, very moody.

Princess, did your suicidal ideations and such get worse after you started 5 HTP and are you taking anything else? Just curious.

Well said. Used to I was a jovial hyper/joking/rowdy person in the morning when I woke, ya know they type that pissed everyone off. Since I have OCD now I am the total opposite. But when I say I would like that in the mornings it was in a good way, I was just really happy and in a good mood.

That is weird. When I was very young I showed signs of OCD, even somewhat tourettes, but nothing serious, and was very hyper, outgoing; basically the complete opposite that I am today. I've always declared in my numerous counselling sessions that I want this experience to bring me back to that era. So far completely unsuccessful.

No, my suicidal ideations improved!!! I used to be completely consumed with suicidal thoughts/ideation ALL THE TIME. It was just awful. They subsided pretty quickly once I started on 5 HTP, which was great and I noticed a great mood lift! I even had people commenting that I was acting like a differnt (much nicer and more relaxed!!!) person!

The suicidal ideation has come back, but no where near as strong as it was, and I suspect it's because I'm experiencing some serious problems with my partner AND that work is pretty stressful at the moment AND I'm a little sleep-deprived AND - most importantly- I'm in the "detox" period from 5 HTP. I haven't taken any for nearly 5 days, because you're supposed to give your body periodic breaks from it to stop a tolerance forming.

And, no, I'm not taking anything else. Well I try to remember to take vitamins and fish oil, but I'm not on any thing serious.
