I am extremely shy, on online social anxiety tests i always score way beyond what is considered *normal social anxiety*, this has ruined and continues to ruin my life. i hate it and hate my life, i just want to not live anymore! i have barely had any freinds in my life. i am 21 years old male. i droped out of a junior college because of my nervousness/shyness damit. i have never had a girlfriend, im a virgin. its hard for me to leave the house. i tremble and my voice sounds weird when im talkign to someone. the only person im talking to in the past few months has been my mom. i dont know what to do. are there any medications or anything out there? i know all the tipsout therel like go outside more, or get out of ur comfot zone, etc they all dont work, they might work for other people but no for me, its like my body is allergic to people and especially people. i dont hate people, im just really scare to talk to them especially especially females.. i hate all this bs please help

This is all the BS i have:
Excessive self-consciousness and anxiety in everyday social situations
Intense worry for days, weeks, or even months before an upcoming social situation
Extreme fear of being watched or judged by others, especially people you don’t know
Fear that you’ll act in ways that that will embarrass or humiliate yourself
Fear that others will notice that you’re nervous
Physical symptoms of social anxiety disorder / social phobia
Red face, or blushing
Shortness of breath
Upset stomach, nausea (i.e. butterflies)
Trembling or shaking (including shaky voice)
Racing heart or tightness in chest
Sweating or hot flashes
Feeling dizzy or faint

please help me, thank you very much

I think the most effective way to overcome social anxiety is to get help from a pyschologist because its important to first of all understand why its happening before starting to challenge it. The understanding why is a crucial part of reprogramming your brain not to respond the way it does in social settings. Medication can be very effective for helping to reduce the physical symptoms.

Welcome :)

What are the names of the medications and do i need a prescription to get them. How easy are they to get, are there any side effects?

Hi, I am in the same position as you at the moment. As phocas said, finding a good psychologist is important but it may take some time to find the right one for you. I was lucky enough to meet a great psychologist who I feel comfortable with and who I look forward to seeing every few weeks. It helps when there is someone who understands your problems because, well lets face it, most people don't. He has suggested Dialectical Behaviour Therapy which can be used to help treat social anxiety and Avoidant Personality Disorder (it was originally intended to treat Borderline Personality Disorder).

As for medication, I am currently on Sertraline (SSRI), but you will need to talk to your doctor or a psychiatrist about which medication is best for you.

If it helps you out, I recognize myself with many of the things you describe. I hope it gets better, no matter how you approach these problems.
