meet people
If you like reading, grab your favorite book, go to a coffee shop with comfy chairs and sink into one of them. Make sure there are other chairs around you. Read.
When someone else sits nearby, they'll probably be reading too. Ask them about their book.
But don't just ask about what they are reading, be curious about WHY they are reading it. What kind of a person reads a book like that? What does that book reveal about their interests?
What I find interesting about what people read is that people usually identify with a story when they see commonalities between the life story arc of a character in the book and their own life. I find it interesting to put that out there and ask the person what they share in common with the story's characters?
That conversation in itself can be had with anyone, anywhere regardless of what they're reading. You'll build a connection if one is there. If not, go back to your book.
OR you could be a cocky SOB and roll up to a cute someone searching the library stacks and say "Umm....the comic book section is over THERE!"
