How to improve concentration?

In my new job, at times I struggle with concentration.

If I'm talking to someone, my mind drifts and things about something else.

It's annoying me as I want to do well in this job.

Any advice, articles on improving this aspect?

Thank you.

I suggest trying meditating. Either once a day, or several times throughout the day. So for example, in the morning/before you go to work, maybe during a break while at work, and then after work or at night before bed. I prefer meditating before bed, along with other things like stretching/massaging to relax.

I would think that anything that relaxes you will also lower anxiety some too and will help your brain function better. Stretching, massaging, meditating, exercising, writing/journaling (using a pen/pencil and paper is more helpful than typing for some reason), etc.

I don't know how your brain works and what goes on in your head. But if there are certain things/thoughts that are distracting you on a daily basis, obviously one of the best things to do is work on those. If there is something bothering you about a relationship with someone, work on getting the courage to talk to them about it/think about what to say. If there are thoughts about yourself (appearance, behavior, etc) that distract or bother you, and you recognize that there are illogical/wrong, work on challenging them, replacing them with realistic thoughts. As you feel less anxiety, stress, and or depression from them and they begin to go away, you won't have to think thoughts about these things daily.

You could also always try using sites/games like Lumosity daily.

I have this happen to me too. When I'm on the phone, sometimes I forget what the other person is saying and just blank out, leading to awkward silences. I second Rawz - practice mindfulness perhaps daily or every other day, and do lumosity. I also suggest playing video games which studies show confer mental benefits.

Second week and I feel my concentration isn't there at times. One lack of concentration resulted in embarrassment.

Maybe going out for some fresh air regularly might help - maybe I'm too static and doing work causes me to get my brain tense and when people talk and I'm tense then my concentration isn't there. IDK.

Struggling on how improve this. If someone is relaying a task to me, I feel I get the general gist of it but not the ins and outs and hence why I either make mistakes or my colleague pulls me up on something I should hae done. I was in a team meeting and I just wasn't there mentally, thinking about things and just catching the drift.

Maybe some people are like that? They pick up gists of information whilst most people sink All information in? IDK,.

I have a problem with this too. I really should start meditating more to help it. Thanks for the tip, Rawz.

In terms of meditating, I've tried on and off through the years, and found I just cannot get my brain to quiet down even in a dark room at night with no noise or other stimuli... my thoughts just keep intruding. Not sure what can be done to correct this... I've got ADD and distraction is my default state. I've heard folks without ADD have an easier time meditating.. that certainly makes good sense to me!

I can HIGHLY recommend working out. I use to do 15 minutes of intensive threadmill running. It keeps me focus for the rest of the day. I'm doing it daily now. I'm doing meditation as well but for me, working out outperforms that.
