How to form a study group?

Those of us who go to school, and have SA have probably asked this question before. You see people getting together to study but you are by yourself and you simply don't know how to ask.

I think I might look stupid, don't know how to ask, in a cool, non-caring way. First of all I don't even know how to ask, or what I'm asking for. What do people do when they study in groups? I thought reading was an individual thing.

I've never been in a study group, I dont know what they do in study groups, how they actually study. I dont know how to ask first of all because I dont know how people study in study groups! What do they do?

Alright, my experience with study groups is that they are helpful if the people you are with care about getting good grades... basically all you do is study or do review questions and ask eachother questions if you need help with something... the only way I would think of getting in a study group is if one of my few friends were in it or I would maybe try to find someone really shy/quiet that I would feel comfortable approaching and asking if they would like to study with lol

but do you ask them "can I study with you"?

I'm also kinda afraid of asking guys because it might be gay? Especially those douchebag kinda guys, if it was a smart guy ok. But I'd rather be asking a girl because well , I'm a guy, and already have had enough guys in my life and there's a small women to guy ratio in my life, thus you get bored you know?

But since that might not be a possibility, a guy who is kinda like me, an intellectual and someone I can relate with. Then with some experience in that I can move on to the other sex... and then finally be more well rounded, not caring whether it's a guy or girl because it's in balance :p. And believe me it has nothing to do with sex, but maybe gender (which is sexual, but still not having to do with the "act of sex") if you know what I mean. Maybe I just need to find a guy who's like me.

haha understandable about the whole ratio thing but yeah I would try to sit next to someone in class that is sitting alone or something and try to talk to them about the class. After a couple minutes ask them if they have anyone to study with and if they say yes or no, doesn't matter ask if you can either join their study group or if they would like to study with you and then you know get their email or number... most likely they are in the same boat as you and are probably looking for someone to study with too the difference is that you spoke up... I don't recommend just walking up to a group of people and saying can I study with you, I don't find people are very receptive to that... they may say yes but they are usually like ugh inside lol

obviously after gettin their number or email... when you would have a test or exam you would contact them and see if they wanted to study :p (forgot to say that in post above lol)

haha. Yea.. funny thing about asking a group of people if you can study with them. I feel that way even asking one person.

Some people don't even like to study in groups, or even think that it's unnecessary. Some people think studying in groups is distracting also.. so .. I guess I don't know what to think. Some people might think that I just want people to hang out with, or want them to just explain everything, which is untrue. Yea I do want to surround myself with more people and be more social, and yea I want to get help if I need it and not have to go to a tutor all the time, but it's not just that.

I need to keep at it. School starts in 2 weeks.

:( yeah some times it is distracting and people do fine studying by themselves all the time... well I hope you the bestest of luck. If its worth anything to you I would definetly form a study group with you :p unfortunately I'm in Canada and your in the States lol..

ugh I have the same problem!

I SO NEED A STUDY GROUP! mostly because I have like 0 self control and if I'm left alone I usually end up doodling or falling asleep or daydreaming or if I have a computer then I'd go on youtube, check SPW and procrastinate!

Good advice niceangry.
