In working at dealing with others, something that has worked for me at least some times was to figure that if my probability of success was zero, I had no reason to fear that what I was about to do would fail. So I set my goal to the low target of getting through it far enough for it to serve as practice for later when I might actually be able to try for real. That took away a lot of the anxiety that made me flub things in the first place.
