Hey there...

Hi everyone! I've obviously just joined this, it seems helpful for times when I need a little extra moral support in my life. :)

So I don't have social phobia, but I am and always have been very shy, anxious, and extremely self-conscious. I've come out of my shell a little more recently: I've made a few friends at uni this year and I really enjoy meeting new people and talking, that sort of thing.

One thing I have lots of trouble with is communicating in a non-friendly situation, eg. at work I was TERRIFIED if I ever had to talk to my boss or co-workers. The thought of applying for a new job this year turns my blood cold. I guess I have zero self-confidence or something...

My other major anxiety is having to go to parties - in high school I was friends with some of the hardest partiers around, and I was (and still am) always making lame excuses to not go! And when I do go I get nervous for DAYS beforehand and usually am a total wallflower, sitting alone on the couch with my vodka cooler while my friends make out behind me...

Great party!

Anyway I've got a feeling this site will be a lot of help... :D

Hey Jeepster & Welcome! :)

It's normal to be a bit nervous in work/job applying situations... Have you read 'What Color Is Your Parachute'? Really great book, helps a lot.. Lots of other cool articles and books too..

It's also good to 'split' it into mini-steps, eg just write a fab CV one day or week, listing all your accomplishments in previous job/s and volunteering positions, then look at ads/ask around for openings, then look at companies online & research them, ask around in RL about them, so you fairly know'em, then it's easier to send applications and interview, if you know what they stand for etc.
(It can be somewhat time-consuming, some good interviews can happen that way though!)

As for parties - ha ha, maybe start hanging with people who are calmer and more easygoing and not so 'hard partygoers'?? Then maybe you'll be one of the more active and everyone will admire you? ;)
Also, parties without a 'reason/cause' can be fairly boring... Maybe look for volunteering opportunities, where you eg work at a stand before/after/during a concert and have an 'excuse' to interact with people? And learn how to dance?? :)
