Yes. The trick is to try and sit near people that you think you would enjoy working with. If they start teaming up, simply ask ''would you mind if I join you?'' or something you feel comfortable saying.

I dread classes like this. My brother didn't take a required class because of the group presentation requirement. In the past I have been rejected by groups. I was in gym once and the teacher asked 4 people to pick their teammates for basketball. Everyone else was picked and I was the last person sitting on the gym floor who wasn't picked. Nobody wanted me so teacher had to assign me to one of the groups. It was embarassing because I was sitting there with everybody looking at me like I was an alien. I always wondered if it was my looks because the people who were picked were better looking than me?

I feel if the teacher must have everyone in groups then the teacher should assign them.
