Is it normal for a social phobic to feel guilty for spending money on extravagant things? I feel guilty whenether i have spent a lot of money on something. A while ago i purchased a car but i feel embarassed about it and that people think i am a show off. I also feel greedy and that i don't deserve the things i have.

i got the same feeling at first but then i convinced it was a good thing and as long as you dont go over the top (like gold teeth lol) you shouldnt feel bad about what you buy. It should make you happy as you've earnt it :D

Strangely enough, I feel just as guilty when you spend money too. Maybe if you stop spending money, both of us will be relieved. Yeah, you heard me. No more fancy cars, you hear?

I reckeon most people wouldn't really have the concious to think that they are showing off. I reckeon it's a thought associated with social anxiety, at least to some extent.

Yeah - I often feel guilty. I should have... I shouldn't have...
I wish I ...... After saying "no"......

Not healthy - I try to be a people pleaser - this makes me feel guilty.
I often say to myself - there is no reason to feel guilty. Something I'm working on.

Man life is to short. Do what you want. Anyways why would you be guilty doing that. There's absoluetely nothing wrong with that. It's not like your committing a crime.

I have this problem, too, but I think it has more to do with depression than SA. At least in my case. I, too, feel guilty when I spend money on myself, even for basic things, because I feel like I just don't deserve it, or that the money is wasted on a turd like me  . I know, totally irrational and stupid thinking, but I do it anyway.

I think it's fine that you bought yourself a car. Whose business is it, anyway, if you do? Maybe the neighbors are just jealous. After all, you didn't buy a Ferrari or a Maserati, did you? You work hard for your money and it's there for you to spend the way you want to.

Problem is that you more want to be accepted than to own a sport car.

I dont have many material wishes, and i m getting to kick a thought of others people's acceptance out of my system. Somehow...

Money is there to be spent IMO.

That's true i suppose. A farmer who lived just across the road to me and his wife worked 24 7 for all their lives, never took holidays o'r anything. They are both dead now and died millionaires.....But for what? They never had any enjoyment from their money, and they certainly won't get the chance now they are dead. Instead they just hoarded away their money like squirrels. So i'm going to stop feeling guilty about spending.
