In today's newspaper: "One must choose in life between boredom and suffering." Germaine de Stael, French author (1766-1817)

So true. Funny how if we take risks, they usually fail. So it's a choice between being aggressive and being put on fire with pain after the near-inevitable disappointment, or playing it safe, hiding, and getting bored but at least only having a dull ache.

Your thoughts?

One of the reasons that I’m on this forum right now is that I took a risk that failed. The dull ache would have been much better and manageable. Every single day I regret the risk I took.

The boredome can be insanely annoying at times, but so far it has never been lethal to my health. Some risky things I did nearly destroyed me. When I'm stressed I don't eat or sleep properly, but when I'm bored I still eat and sleep well

Yep, thru trial and error I've learned that taking a risk and getting searing pain from the failure is worse than not taking the risk and at least being comfortable and not stressed/frustrated/disappointed.

Well not taking any risks at all is no good in my opinion. I think everyone is capable of doing something at least.. it just needs to discern where our limitations are, and these are probably lower than by most others. I think there are always things we can strive for, or what we can learn. But to strive for something which is clearly beyond us only will bring failure and disappointment..
