Getting My Bikers License

Hi,
I'm a 19 year old dude going to college right now and with how things are going I figure I'll turn 30 and realize I've done nothing, no excitement or anything in my life. So, I'm set on getting a motorcycle to stir things up a bit, to try something new and exciting. Bikes are dangerous? I have ****ing social phobia--I'm willing to take the risk, lol.

I don't have a job so I plan on using my financial aid funds from fall semester to buy one; my parents will not support me at all in getting the bike. ::(:

What are your thoughts? Does anyone ride a motorcycle? Any sports bikes?

i dont ride a bike but i wanted that to be my first vehicle. i heard that the 2008 ninja
250r is a very good bike to get started on for ur first one:

I really want to get a car so I can drive alone at night^__^
I don't think I'll be comfortable in a motorcycle though...it's too open for me

Cool idea! If I could afford it, I'd also get the bike license.

I've always had a positive impression of motorcycles though, my mom got that license before she got the one for cars

I've got a 2005 Ninja 250, brand new it cost me about $4,000 with a full face Shoei helmet. I used to use it for commuting to work, but I've decided that's too dangerous. Riding in traffic sucks, nobody will yield you the right of way. So my plans now are to use it on weekends only. It's a blast to ride, but right now it's rainy season so I gotta keep that in mind too.

My bike weighs about 300 pounds, speed tops out at about 95mph, it does 0-60mph in 6.0 seconds, and it gets about 60mpg. And in Florida you don't need insurance to ride one, but I got a Geico policy that costs me like $99/year.

My first bike was a 1985 Yamaha XT600, a dual purpose single cylinder thumper. It didn't have electric start or liquid cooling, but it was a great bike to learn on. I was about 21 at the time I bought it.

One thing that was mentioned to me was the amount of exposure you have while riding, but I don't care :p

@sabbath9, very nice ninja. A 250 seems like a nice starter bike; it's what they use at the biker learning course. I've been leaning towards buying a 600 though. I'll be commuting 30 mins to school and back everyday. What are your thoughts on bigger bikes?

Also, I find that my financial aid usually gets wasted on things like fast food. So might as well invest in something exciting! No plan on waiting!

A 600 sport bike is too powerful to learn on. I've accidentally popped wheelies on my little 250, luckily I was able to bring it down quickly. But a 600 wouldn't be as forgiving of beginner's mistakes.

Sounds like a great idea and a huge confidence booster. I'm jealous, I'm not allowed to drive anymore, let alone ride a bike!

Ahh, scary :x

I've heard a story of someone losing his driving [car] priveledges but he was still able to ride a bike. I guess they are two separate things!
