First day in a new job tomorrow in an office environment

Fortunately for me and I am counting my blessings, I've got myself a trainee reporter role at a newspaper.

I had a bad experience in an office related experienced before so I'm making sure the mistakes I made there aren't repeated here, i.e. not engaging in conversation and being lonesome.

But for tomorrow, I'm going to try and smile more and shake hands when I introduce myself to others, see how that goes.

It was unexpected but tomorrow is my first day. It's a small team comprised of 15 people and I'm just wanting some advice on any do's that I should do tomorrow.

Thanks!

Congratulations on the new job! Maybe if you can join people in the breakroom for lunch, that might go over well. I have noticed at the college I went to for a while there was a man who was always in a hurry due to work, but he seemed to always have a ready smile and wave for everyone. If you can't manage to stick around for longer conversations, make it seem as though you are super busy, but really happy to see them. (upright and energetic posture with generous happy attitude) That way they will easily forgive you for not staying longer in the conversation. This may or may not work, just my one and a half cents worth. :)

Congrats on your new job! Be prepared to introduce yourself in front of the 15 or so people. Tell them about your interests, hobbies, etc. When I was at my first job, I came unprepared the first day. When my boss asked me to introduce myself, I only had a couple of things to say and that's it. People were left not knowing much about me. I was also very nervous and my anxiety probably showed through. Try not to panic and like you mentioned, smile more.

My first days three in the office went OK, nothing major happened anxiety wise. After the first day of introductions, I was kept busy by work. But doing the other office chores (answering the main phone, answering the door) I was hesitant to do but gradually, over the last two days, tried to do that more and felt comfortable. I also ask my colleagues if they want a drink. But still not creating much banter but because it's busy, difficult at times but a positive start.

Modify the same question. How are you? How've made it so far? Weather.. What's the time. Who's that? Really?? Oh I'm going to make it a weekend.. Do you now that... Green suit? No way nowadays etc... Sounds easy? ;)!
