It's always fascinated me how the people I've known either know what they are good at or at least have an idea of what talents they have. I on the other hand, have never figured out my skills or talents. Whenever someone asks me I always go blank. So I'd be fascinated to know if others have had a similar situation. I knew people at school who knew exactly what they were doing with their future and had it all planned out, more people then you'd realize.
I have made the mistake I think, of trying to hard to figure out if I have a talent or skill. It's as if the more you go looking for it, the further it is away. I know I have certain abilities, but I don't count them as skills as most people my age are as good as I or much better. For example building a PC or typing. So I don't generally see them as talents or skills, yet I keep looking for inspiration. Perfectionism doesn't help, I hate it with a passion.
If I do something I'm the slightly bit proud of, the instant it happens I'm thinking of how others have done it better or picking out faults with it. Remember doing a piece of art once at school, took forever and when I finally completed it, I looked to my left and another student had done a piece of art that made my drawing look like it had been done my a two year old. That's when I decided to give up art and the class, maybe that was a mistake, but it's how I felt.
But I'd be interested to hear others experiences.
