Im currently 31 and i never did finish high school, im embarassed by that fact.I have wasted many years sitting at home and doing nothing pretty much.Im going to be trying to do something about my situation this year, going to try a lifeskills course and go from there.Im by no means stupid as to why i didnt finish school, i just never fit in and found it difficult socializing and dreaded going.

Being 31 now if i ever meet someone i am dreadfully embarassed to what to say, what i do for living etc.

Good for you rko74!. As to not finishing high school, plenty of successful people haven't. Recently in Australia there was a survey of the top 10 most successful people in our country and only 2 of them had uni degrees and 5 of them hadn't finished high school so dont be too ashamed of that, it doesnt mean you can't be successful.

Schools & colleges are probably the last places I would look for knowledge, so I don't think u should feel embarassed at all. :) Cheer up!

(I also believe u're lucky cause u didn't have to go through that s&|+!)
There r lot of things u can do with your life!

I believe school and most tertairy courses tend to restrict knowledge, creativity.

Good luck with your course, but school is definitely not the be all and end all.

Don't feel too embarresed. Well, at least not here.
I'm 28 and I didn't finish high school, I've started and stopped Uni (college), countless times (well o.k. 3 times), and taken short courses. So you are far from alone. I've as yet been unable to overcome my fears, and at present don't work, study or anything else..
I'm also terrified to talk to anyone I know, because you just know ther're going to ask what you've been up to etc.. and just to make it all so much more embarrasing, I'm presently living at home again with my Mum.
I feel like one of those cliche jokes you see on T.V. all the time.
The best I can offer you is that your not alone, and at least you haven't given up. They say that's the first step right (hope)?
Best of luck, and I truly do hope you do better than me, just don't ask too much of yourself too soon, it's always been my fatal mistake..

ShiJai.

My experience has been similar to those above...starting courses & dropping out etc..starting jobs & leaving.
I was always terrified of people asking what I was up to...as I never felt I had a good answer.
I stopped feeling like that a few years ago. I just got tired of feeling that I had to account for myself to other people.
This is a reminder to myself really...for when I feel like that...as well as my advice to anyoe else that feels the same way.

DON'T JUSTIFY YOURSELF TO ANYONE !!

You don't owe anyone an explanation for who you are or what you do...do whatever things make you happy.

That's very good advice.
For myself however, logic doesn't always work.
In time perhaps. I hope others have better luck though.

I agree with you guys for the most part but when you are trying to get certain jobs they don't care how much knowledge you have, they care about the piece of paper that said you pass this class or that class.Unfortunately :(

Ok, if it helps to know, if you are ever embarrassed by your situation try and remember poor ol' black mamba (thats me!) who didn't even finish primary school. Who only scraped by in secondary/high-school with a few Es PLUS dropped out of art college. However, she is now a few months away from graduating!

I'm a primary school drop-out!!

Blubs is right though, you shouldn't feel ashamed of your situation, hell you're definitely showing signs of trying to make your situation happier, so good for you. Keep trying, it takes a lot of courage to remain determined but it pays off in the end.

Everything will be ok in the end. If its not ok, its not the end.

Yeah, I only realised that yesterday when one of my classmates said he finds exams difficult. Hes really smart & gets good coursework grades, but because the exams are worth 70% he ends up with a very bad grade overall that doesn't represent his true abilities. That sucks, in no job situation would you be working under exam conditions anyway. I'm sure employers realise this and thats why they look for social sklls to redress the balance, but also for us thats terrifying. However, there are employers out there who just want someone to do he job well and be a generally nice and pleasant person - babblemouths never get the work done anyway.
