ahh i know the feeling Marvolo...yes, i think compromising, or silly..stupid things happen to me all the time, or i help these things to happen. I couldn't even guess how many times i've said or thought.."i can't believe i said that" or "i can't believe i did that" and these crazy random things seem only to happen to me 8)

Uff, it's some consolation (or at least should be) for me to know that you all have such a feeling... Yes, I think so that we phobics probably often help those situations to happen to us, behaving "phobicly"... :?

so maybe a dumb question but what do you mean by comprimising events??

Well, I didn't know how to express exactly; I mean such disgracing/discrediting/making a fool of oneself situations or behaviour as e.g. saying sth completely inadequate or weird in a casual conversation, which sounds generally strange, or behaving atypically (also pretty strange...) in normal social situations... Terrible thing!

hey Marvolo..i think you explained it really well..i shall give an example of me in a compromising position..as long as you don't think i'm too much of a dork! ok, a few years ago...the last time i was in the beer store, (the very last time) i asked for a case of beer..24 bottles, so i paid and the guy behind the counter asked me if i would like a "hand out" with that. But I was thinking "handout", you know like the assignments you get in school, when the teacher says "ok, i'm passing around a handout for everyone"..so i say to the beer store guy "what kind of a handout?"..he laughs and line up of guys behind me laugh..and i carry out the beer myself

I often screw up verbally in those situations too. Like I'll say "nice to meet you" when I've met someone before just because I'm so nervous internally. Sometimes I call people by the wrong name or just say something that's not fitting or right. I'm noticing too that alcohol is making this worse, it seems to be increasing the likelihood that I goof up, so I don't know if it's helping me that much overall. The worst is when you get the "quizzical look" (furrowed eyebrows) after something like that. Ugh.

Oh guys, neither of the situations you described looks that compromising to me. I think that much of the uncomfortableness of such situations is caused by overvalueing. Everyone (even "normal" people, lol) happen to ask stupid question or say something unapropriate from time to me. The difference is that they don't give a damn. They simply laugh and forget it and move on. Say it, we are social phobics. We are anxious and paranoid. Of course that compromising situations are such a problem for us. Laugh at it and forget it? No, of course we won't. Instead of that, we get even more nervous. Which means that the probability of another weird situation increases.

Sigh. So let's go get compromised.

Good to know I'm not alone such...

I recalled now that I've sometimes said "good morning" twice because of s-phobic stupidness, could be said...

You know. Tryin, maybe you are quite right... Maybe we're usually really oversensitive about our behaviour and image. But it's indisputable that some our doings are really ridiculous (for others... :?) and we are conscious about it... :(

Cheers! :D

Ok now i understand what you were saying you have problems with...

All i have to say about that is:

1. get your heart trampled on
2. let people see thru you, be salient
3. wear your fears out like a carefree kid
4. feel free
5. all the world's a stage and we are ONLY players, no need to take on so much "duty" to others. Just cause the world's a stage doesn't mean we need to "act" be the character and show your personality you know you are.
6. stick your foot in your mouth, and let out whatever youre thinking
7. turn the other cheek and don't take any credit for it
8. "To thine own self be true...." BE HONEST

I've written somewhere else, that only stupid/primitive people can laugh at such but sad and miserable things, as social phobic behaviour... Take it in that way (or try).
At me, people're rather confused than laughy, but sometimes I'm not very sure.
cheers! :)
