Does she have Social Anxiety or Generalised Anxiety?

I think my mother may have SA/GAD/Panic Disorder. I've been questioning this for a while and would love to hear others opinions. Im curious as to whether its hereditary. I dont want to ask her because she might get snappy or get annoyed at me for asking. Heres why i think she might have it...

1) She's been on Vallium as long as i can remember, and was on Prozac, and i think Lexapro..

2) My grandmother [who has panic attacks for no known reason and is a huge worrier], told me my mother has ALWAYS been panicky over everything.

3) My fathers mother made a comment on her weight and she went and spent over 600 euro on a weightloss program - even though she's got a figure most women her age would die for!
Because of this my father was real angry at his mother.
He told me she has really low self-esteem- thats as bad as mine.

4) She once told me that like me, alcohol makes her anxious.

5) She's always told me not to embarrass her. And if i say something she can get "embarrassed for me", and will sometimes tell me to shut up.

6) When we go to a restaurant or talking on the phone, or to someone important she puts on a posh voice, but shes the furthest thing from posh!

7) When i went through my gothic phase she made it clear she was embarrassed.

8) She still tells me not to talk to strangers [haha - no chance of that happening unless they approach me now anyway...]

Thing is, she seems really confident and will get up on her own in front of a load of people and do crazy things, like give strangers a lapdance or her and her mates dress as superheroes goin out to the pub.

So.... what do ye think?

This sounds just like my mom. She probably has generalized anxiety disorder. Doesn't sound close to panic disorder. I'd be interested to know what she does all day. My mom sits around and watches TV and cleans A LOT. Does your mom do the same thing or similar things?

I think it's time to go to Ireland! Forget the natural beauty, it's got lapdances and superheroes! ;)

But seriously, I'm not qualified to make diagnoses on such a scale with such little to go on. If I was, I surely wouldn't be here! But pro bono work can be immensely satisfying....

:D

Whoa! This sounds so like my mom!
And my grandma is the same as yours! ::p:
She always wants to do everything right, and she worries way too much ::p:
She takes pills for everything ( every illness and so go on).
And my mom and grandma are freakin' funny, they always wanna do a lap dance or something like that. I remember when my mom was shopping she had a umbrella in her hand, and she was dancing and singing ''UNder my umbrella eh eh'' and everyone was laughing ha ha. She's always singing and making funny moves.
But I know from my mom that she had SA too. And my grandma had agoraphobia. She fainted sometimes in big crowds. That must be really scary too.
