I think my mother may have SA/GAD/Panic Disorder. I've been questioning this for a while and would love to hear others opinions. Im curious as to whether its hereditary. I dont want to ask her because she might get snappy or get annoyed at me for asking. Heres why i think she might have it...
1) She's been on Vallium as long as i can remember, and was on Prozac, and i think Lexapro..
2) My grandmother [who has panic attacks for no known reason and is a huge worrier], told me my mother has ALWAYS been panicky over everything.
3) My fathers mother made a comment on her weight and she went and spent over 600 euro on a weightloss program - even though she's got a figure most women her age would die for!
Because of this my father was real angry at his mother.
He told me she has really low self-esteem- thats as bad as mine.
4) She once told me that like me, alcohol makes her anxious.
5) She's always told me not to embarrass her. And if i say something she can get "embarrassed for me", and will sometimes tell me to shut up.
6) When we go to a restaurant or talking on the phone, or to someone important she puts on a posh voice, but shes the furthest thing from posh!
7) When i went through my gothic phase she made it clear she was embarrassed.
8) She still tells me not to talk to strangers [haha - no chance of that happening unless they approach me now anyway...]
Thing is, she seems really confident and will get up on her own in front of a load of people and do crazy things, like give strangers a lapdance or her and her mates dress as superheroes goin out to the pub.
So.... what do ye think?
