I found this song on the Youtubes. It's "Conversation Piece", By David Bowie. It was recorded March 6th 1970 and was apparently the B-side of "The Prettiest Star" single. Bowie recorded a newer version in 2000 but I prefer the original.
Wiki says:
"The song is a first-person narrative of an old scholar who is almost completely alone in the world, and seems to be waiting for death."
I can really relate to the emotions the character is feeling and I'm sure many of you will too. It's one of those songs that somehow makes me both happy and sad at the same time. Thought you people might like it. I love early Bowie so I might be biased. Don't be too turned off by the country/western sound at the beginning.
