Im a communications major, and I get social phobia. I am actually very outgoing and people often tell me this. However, in certain types of situations I get severe social anxiety. For example, if I am out shopping and I spot someone I know first I am usually fine, but if the person spots me before I see them it catches me off guard. Then we have a problem, I blush and may not be able to speak well and just want to run out of the store. Basically I am this outgoing person most of the time and others I turn into a social mess.

Furthermore, I have more anxiety around people who know me real well, and if I get uncomfortable, my face just looks uncomfortable. ...

I used to take meds, zoloft and yes it worked! But I got off of them, b/c fuck it, its not the end of the world if I blush, stutter, hey pass out. Sure its embarrassing, but life is too damn short to be on meds.

My reason for stating this is to tell you, everyone to some degree or another has social phobia. Some people are great at hiding it, like me most of the time. So maybe it will help to know that next time your talking to an outgoing person, that they very well could 2 have social anxiety, they just hide it.

It depends on the severity. Some people can cope with it because their anxiety is somehow managable. Others simply can't since they experience a much higher level of anxiety in almost every social situation. They are often depressed as well.
